Faith Formation

Growing up in a strong Christian household and with rich academic practices, I have learned to love these two aspects of my life and the way in which they work together. I truly believe they go hand-in-hand in my life and each makes the other more meaningful.

My relationship with God has paid off when I have had repeated success in the classroom. It has become routine to pray before major tests, asking God to give me guidance and help me remember everything that I have learned. However, I have always been aware that I can not simply forgo studying and good work habits and ask Him to create miracles for me. I understand that I must do my part to set myself up for success and that God will provide me assistance in this, not make up for my laziness or lack of responsibility.

In addition to attending Mass every Sunday and Reconciliation occasionally throughout the year, I lead a weekly Confirmation preparation class for the youth of my parish. I remember how big an impact these two years of Faith Formation had on me and I wanted to spread some of my wisdom and hopefully make a difference in the lives of the new group of young teens in the program. By doing service for the Lord and spreading his word, I believe he opens up positive opportunities in my life and protects me from harmful situations and consequences.

As my faith has improved my school life, I also believe my strong history of academics has enriched my faith life. Taking advanced placement courses and practicing deeper analysis has contributed to my ability for a more significant understanding of the Scriptures. The critical thinking and questioning skills I have developed have helped me dive deeper into my faith and strengthen my beliefs. I am grateful that I have received the education that I have as it has helped me become a better

    How FFA Changed My Life

It’s made me think harder and work harder, it’s pushed me out of my comfort zone, and ultimately has made me a different, but better person. I’ve become someone that sets a goal, and persistently strives to reach that goal, even when it’s hard and there seems to be no gain from trying. I’ve become someone who can work with a group of people that are different than each other, because we are not all that different. I can talk about business with confidence, I can speak in front of a group of people, and I can tell the difference between a Brahman and an Angus. I’ve truly learned and experienced more than I ever thought possible, all because I joined FFA five long years…

Faith, Imitation, and Imagination Faith, what people personally believe, exists independently of whether or not people share with others. It can be confidence in something that is not seen, such as a promise and an engagement; it can be a belief that has not been proven, for example, a religious belief shared by a group of people who work together to provide support for going deeper into their similar faith. In “God, Science, and Imagination”,Wendell Berry indicates that fundamentalists of both religion and science do not adequately understand or respect imagination, which, when properly defined, is a way of knowing as much as science or religion is. Susan Blackmore, the author of “Strange Creatures”, asserts that it is the ability to imitate…

“Our enemies have made the mistake that America’s enemies always make. They saw liberty and thought they saw weakness. And now, they see defeat.” George W. Bush stated this about the cowardly September 11th attacks. During that fateful day I was glued to my poorly constructed high school chair, gazing in disbelief what was unfolding on Mr. Cox’s History class television.…

Any rich story weaves in symbolism and foreshadowing. This enhances the meaning of the narrative, gives the audience clues to the future, and sets the stage for multiple themes. The drama of the Bible checks all of these boxes and then some. Although there are many characters in the first formative years of Israel’s existence, the character of Joshua, leads Israel into a temporary Promised Land, which foreshadows the role that Jesus plays in the unfolding narrative. Joshua was critical to the establishment of Israel as their own country, leading them to a land to call their own.…

In Simone Weil’s letter, “Reflection on the Right Use of School Studies with a View to the Love of God”, she expresses that the pathway to a strengthened relationship with the Lord can come through a curious and often unthought of source: our studies. Weil believes that as we learn to focus on our schooling that we can also use that increased focus to obtain a greater relationship with the Lord. We learn to devote full attention to our schooling when we are studying and Weil believes that studying should be an intense and rigorous activity. With that intensity comes new knowledge and an enlargement of our ability to focus; with that greater ability to focus on our studies, we also can develop a deeper relationship with God. I have learned…

Adding godliness during this semester will involve personal discipline. As a nursing student who finds time to be scarce, it will be crucial that I set aside time not only to read my Bible and grow in my personal faith, but also time to reflect on what the Lord is teaching me and what that should look like practically. When I think about a godly person, I think about patience and meekness. I think about John 3:30, which says, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” Godliness involves being a devout believer.…

Faith in Action Paper I spent my 15 faith service hours volunteering for Feed My Starving Children and I helped the maintenance crew around the school. While I did this I made new friends and grew as a person as well as in my faith. I probably spent about 8 or more of my service hours volunteering for Feed My Starving Children. Before when I was younger, I would go in because my older sister needed service hours and scoop some veggies and powder into a funnel for an hour and a half. Then after the session my sister would have me walk up to the counter and ask for a slip of paper with the service hours on it, so she give them to her school’s counselor and get the hours out of the way faster.…

How My Faith Defines Who I Am Faith: having a strong belief in a religion, or an even stronger belief in a God. I personally believe in God the Father, and that he created each and every one of us in his own image. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sin and brought us new life through his death and resurrection. In my faith I stand as a Catholic, which means I believe in only one God. However, God is three persons, also known as the Holy Trinity, meaning there is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.…

There are two things that impact your life during every moment: faith and belief. Viktor Frankl was a man who survived the Nazi takeover despite his wife, mother, and brother being killed. He is a huge example of how faith and belief can impact your life positively or negatively despite your situation. Having Faith Things Will Turn Out Alright…
