I learned that each ethnicity group has a wide variety of differences in their subcultures. Each ethnic group follows certain rituals and have different belief systems. For health care professionals, it is important to understand ethnic differences and provide care geared towards their individual belief. The important point I learned from this assignment is that if we health care providers consider using the shared decision making and motivational interview skills for the patient interview, then one can easily meet the complex patient care needs and provide patient centered care. I also learn that culture is central in Latinos population. In Hispanic/Latino population, usage of traditional healing is the best healing system and more commonly used than modern medical care as it can be unaffordable for many of them. While doing research for this assignment and during my clinical experiences, I found that Latinos use prescriptions medication from their native country sold in the U.S.A. illegally or makes trips to Mexico to buy medications at a lower cost.
