Faith Academy Observation

On Thur. March 31, I was granted the privilege of being able to observe one of the history classes at Faith Academy High School. While there, I was able to sit in on Mr. Smith’s ninth grade world history class of which they were studying WWII and its influence. It was during my visit at Faith Academy, that I was granted the privilege of observing some wonderful students, teacher, faculty and staff. Some of the most amazing aspects that I observed while at the school was: the classroom/school culture, the way the arrangement and decor of the classroom, and finally the classroom management and the interaction between the teacher discipline and student behavior. The first aspect that was different for me personally was the atmosphere of the school …show more content…
I enjoyed meeting with Mrs. Rapier in the office, as she greeted us with generosity and respect for us whom were observing the core-studies within the school. I also enjoyed visiting with Mr. Smith and his students within the classroom that I was assigned to. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the school…as it allowed for me to experience an world unlike those that the public schools offer. I would like, if ever given the opportunity, to teach at a private Christian school such as Faith Academy. However, if I am not able to , then I hope to take the information that I learned for their atmosphere and place it within my own classroom. It was also very interesting to see how the teacher handled both the classroom management while demonstrating discipline for students behavior in order for the information that was being presented to effectively be received by those within the classroom. Anything that caused a disruption from the lecture was quickly addressed and the students were able to be get back on topic quickly in order to retain the information more effectively. Finally, I also enjoyed how this particular teacher had the classroom set up for the students to be able to effectively learn the material while also being engaged within the subject. It gave me a lot of ideas for what I can possibly do to make my room both a place of love and a place of learning. I realize that this visit has taught me some valuable information that I will always remember and use for my own students. I hope to become a great teacher that gets the opportunity to demonstrate her aspects to any upcoming teachers and allow my light to shine as a example for the teacher that he/she should strive towards

In May of 1991 Frederick Douglass Intermediate School was in shambles and Lorraine Monroe was given the daunting task of revitalizing the school. As she first toured the school it was hard to miss the blaring signs that the students had no pride or sense of ownership of the building in which they spent their schooldays. Hallways and classrooms were filthy and tagged with graffiti. Windows were broken. Ceiling tiles were “punched out”.…

Faith, Imitation, and Imagination Faith, what people personally believe, exists independently of whether or not people share with others. It can be confidence in something that is not seen, such as a promise and an engagement; it can be a belief that has not been proven, for example, a religious belief shared by a group of people who work together to provide support for going deeper into their similar faith. In “God, Science, and Imagination”,Wendell Berry indicates that fundamentalists of both religion and science do not adequately understand or respect imagination, which, when properly defined, is a way of knowing as much as science or religion is. Susan Blackmore, the author of “Strange Creatures”, asserts that it is the ability to imitate…

What makes a Christian school a Christian school? Bruce Heckman, in his article, “Schools as Communities of Grace” argues that “Christian schools should be known as communities of grace-places where visitors clearly see God at work in the way relationships are conducted.” If it is the case, what are the things that the Christian school should be doing to reflect that view? Many Christian schools today are not very different from public schools. Some of the problems found in Christian schools are the same ones in public schools such as competitiveness, bullying, favoritism, and individualism.…

The fifth and most current stage I am in is the “Individuative-Reflective Faith” stage, and this happens in early adulthood. I started thinking critically about my faith when I took confirmation in 10th grade. I think I was fortunate enough to have church leaders in my life who wanted me to question my faith, and find what it meant to me. Early adulthood was when things really started to kick off. I was on my own, I wasn’t being forced to go to church, I could discover what was a right fit for me.…

I really enjoyed the time I spent in Mrs. Flinn’s fourth grade classroom over Spring Break. I was able to observe for a total of four hours between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. During my time with the fourth graders, I took a closer look at the solid behavior classroom supports being used. Along with these supports, I was extremely impressed by the way Mrs. Flinn handled classroom management. Even though I observed during a very exciting week, she had great control over her students.…

As I began observing Mrs. Farmer’s classroom at Saint Mary’s Catholic School, I realized private and public education does not differ in many ways. When I took the time to interview Mrs. Farmer I chose a time when she would not be rushing to answer the questions. I wanted to get answers that were thought out and not just blurted out due to the students coming back in the class in ten or so minutes. I met with Mrs. Farmer to discuss the interview questions a few Wednesdays ago, after softball practice, prior to me arriving she had been working on lesson plans for the next week. In the interview, I learned a lot about how Mrs. Farmer has Common Core she must follow when teaching, how she plans weekly and stays organized, and how students impact…
