Once upon a time starts the story of a fairytale and happily ever after closes the ending. Fairytales show young girls falling for a guy that is usually a prince or rich guy after facing some obstacles that prevent them from being together. The Beauty and the Beast by Beaumont doesn’t stray from the typical fairytale outline, but is there more to the happily ever after then meets the eye? Almost all fairytales end with a happily ever after, but is it just a mask to hide the real plot from the readers? In The Beauty and the Beast by Beaumont we come to an ending where the Beauty falls in love with the Beast, but was it a guilt free love or was there a wicked manipulation tactic made by the Beast to break the curse? Beaumont shows that there is more than love at first sight to get a happily ever after in The Beauty and the Beast. The Beast guilt’s Beauty into thinking that she fell in love with him through acts of bribery and guilt manipulation so that Beauty can break the curse.

The Beast helped Beauty pack “a huge trunk full of silk dresses embroidered with gold and encrusted with diamonds” (39). The author shows Beauty picking the dress that’s the least ornate and wanting to give the rest to her sisters as presents, and the trunk instantly disappears. The author shows the reader how Beauty is a sweet girl, and readers would think that the Beast is also sweet and kind to send dresses to Beauty.
