Fairy Tales: The Story Of Dee's Room

In the story Dee's room was always a mess. One day a raccoon broke into the house and they thought it was a burglar. Her and her sister called the cops and they did a little investigating. They all found out that it was just a raccoon hiding in Dee's messy room. I think Dee cleaned her room because she was both embarrassed and concerned over safety.

Dee always got complaints about her room. When the raccoon was found there that was just the cherry on top. In the text it says "I stood in my room, arms folded, staring long and hard at the mess, and then I started working." This was after everyone's commentary jokes about her room and insults.

Her room was very unsafe as well. What if she had been in the room when the raccoon came. When

According to Catherine Orenstein, people today have been fantasizing over the storybook romance because they are obsessed with finding their own happily ever after. Our infatuations over fairy tales have been strongly shaped by romance-based reality television. In “Fairy Tales and a Dose of Reality,” Orenstein argues that reality television gives a false sense of hope of what love actually is: the television shows promote that love is based off status and appearance. According to Orenstein, in the original Cinderella story, Prince Charming falls for Cinderella’s gown and slippers but fails to recognize her face (285). Society’s expectations on what love and romance should be contradict the original fairy tales’ meanings.…

One could argue that perhaps the determined young Dee had decided that if she could only destroy her mother’s house (that she’d apparently hated so much) she could escape the roots that she would later reject, and the simple life that she had always been contemptuous of. Although this is not an irrational thought, credit must be given where credit is due. Even in childhood, Dee was rather competent⸺wouldn’t she have realized that setting the house of her economically disadvantaged mother on fire might only result in her family being forced to move into a much less aesthetically pleasing home? (Which is exactly what happened, according to Mama’s narration and description of the second house where the events of the story take…

The narrator is upset because her daughter in the story is disrespecting there house and heritage and acts like she doesn’t even want to be part of the family. Stated in the short story “When a cow comes nibbling around the edge of the yard, she snaps it and me and Maggie and the house (Pg.61). By her saying that she acts like they should be living in a way better place where there aren't animals around the house nibbling on stuff. She is just being self-centered, selfish, and inconsiderate that they aren’t a very rich family. Also what show that Dee is rude and disrespectful towards her family members is when she says “the scalding humor that erupts like bubbles in lye” (Pg.60).…

In Clifford’s The New Mother the “shabby girl” creature manages to transfix her victims in a way that bends them to her wim. Instead of making these children feel completely at ease like the fairies in Le Fanu’s story did, she gets the children to do her bidding simply by lying to them. She draws the children in with deception rather than a distraction. She promises the children that she will play them a song and “a little man dressed as a peasant” and “a little woman dressed to match” will jump out of the lid of her “peardrum” and “dance most beautifully” for them (Clifford, 4). This trickery is far off from the kind of trickery that was employed by the fairies.…

The point of view in the story “Everyday Use,” by Alice Walker plays a big part. Throughout the story, one of Mama’s daughters came to visit. From Mama’s perspective Dee seems like this rude, stuck up, spoiled child because she had the opportunity to go out and expand her education, while Mama and Maggie continued to live their lives on the farm.…
