The daughter was tiny and was a disappointment; in the story, the mother hides her in her pocket. Eventually, because she is so secluded she explores the library and gains a passion for reading books. In the library, she meets a mouse. Furthermore, she ends up falling in love with the mouse. When she tells this to her mother and the king, they become angry, they say it is unnatural and so the princess left the palace and married the mouse.
This story represents Cadence, the tiny princess, and how she was concealed by her mother, penny. Later, she meets Gat, assuming the role of the mouse, and they fall in love. Sadly, Gat is Indian and so he is considered unfit to marry Cadence because she is white. So, because they make plans to run away and get married. At this point in the story, the reader does not know this information so the stories meaning may not make complete sense to the reader at this point in time.
The third and final story is about three very talented children that were given gifts by fairies. They grew up with a witch the same age as them, later this witch became jealous. She cursed them that before their sixteenth birthday that they would strike a match and they would be swallowed in its flames. In the summer they made a plot to burn down the Claremont house and in this event when they were burning down the house Gat, Mirren, and Johnny ended up dying in the flames because Candice had lit the fire and it had started to burn too quickly for them to get out in time.
In conclusion, these fairy tales add an extra layer of depth to the book and in the beginning leaves the reader wondering if they serve a purpose, which by the end of the book their purpose is revealed. This method of storytelling helps the story become more memorable and helps the author hide the true meaning of them until the appropriate time in which they are to be
