Losing that most important role model could have many negative effects. Cinderella loses her mother at a very young age and at the same time while going through that pain, her father marries another woman who behaves very rudely with Cinderella. The Grimm brothers describe how Cinderella’s life changes while living with a mean stepmother as, “[stepmother] took her beautiful clothes away from her, dressed her in an old gray smock, and gave her wooden shoes...[stepmother] said, ‘Why should that stupid goose sit in the parlor with us?’” (Grimm). Even though Cinderella’s step-family arrogantly treats her, she remains kind and polite. The story teaches children that comfort can be found without receiving materialistic happiness. Bettelheim describes the moral value of the fairy tales as, “[From the fairy tales] The child makes such identifications all on his own, and the inner and outer struggle of the hero imprint morality on him” (Bettelheim 7). In the real world, there are many unethical people who would try to overrule an innocent, but children should act appropriately, even when surrounded by bad behavior. Cinderella faces all the burden in a cheerful attitude. She does not become bitter or arrogant like those around her. One of those, “Cinderella,” teaches a life lesson to children about how to live in the world when nothing is in their control. Cinderella’s story would help and inspire many of the children who face unmanageable tortures and prepare them to face all the setbacks of their lives. Cinderella lives happily ever after, but her choices such as remaining kind, loyal, and productive have the most impact on her journey to achieve prosperity. Cinderella’s choices teaches that a child should not copy a bad behavior when treated harshly.
