With the Civil War ending, the American South begun entering a new era called Reconstruction. Reconstruction plan was for the benefit of the suffering residents in the Southern States. During reconstruction there were several successes and few fiascos that affected the southern population. The main legacy of reconstruction became the freedom of the black population that had been wrongfully punished in the South.
Some of the several successes of reconstruction included the addition of 13th and 14th Amendment to the U.S Constitution, and the Freedman’s Bureau Bill. Several white violent groups formed in the south expecting to divest the rights of newly freed slaves. A major organization was the Klu Klux Klan, which tried to stymie the freeman’s future. The K.K.K devitalized, massacred blacks, and promoted violence for several years, but the clan eventually became weaker and smaller, conversely becoming completely powerless. The Black Codes were another hurdle for the freeman. The nickname of the codes was the slave codes, because the newly passed laws restricted freeman’s freedom such as The Bill of Rights, prohibited the workers from leaving the plantation; free speech, and the man did not have a right in Court. The Black Code laws were passed under President Andrew Johnson. President Johnson was racist, was from TN, born in NC, and his plan did not benefit the newly freed slaves. On the West Coast there are several black people driving brand new Bentleys, enjoying interracial marriages, and operating successful businesses while not having to deal with any racism that is much alive in some parts of the U.S. There many black people who accumulated wealth and enjoy great lifestyles while the South kept itself in a Grunt place. Less than a few hundred years ago, the Southern states tried to demoralize its residents and the plan eventually backfired on itself. The state wanted to be segregated and it eventually stayed that way. As of today, -a person born in the south-, people there have little chance of moving to different parts of the U.S. Property values are too low in the south, low enough to keep the young white youth quarantined just as the laws were a decade ago.
