Failing Class Analysis

Decent Essays
When I was a sophomore in high school, I had good grades except for one class I had a hard time in Physiology. I had a hard time passing the test, until one day I received my report card and saw I was failing the class. When I saw that I was failing my class I knew I had to do something to change my grade. I started to study more and made a study group to help and I would go to my teacher for help when I needed the extra help. After all, my effort into studying my test grades improved and my GPA boosted up as well. It took a lot of willpower not to give up and just retake the class the following year.

In Greg Mantsios’ essay, “Class in America-2012”, Mantsios depicts different aspects of social class. It is fair to say that Mantsios is a believer that the rich exploit the poor, and that the rich get richer, while the poor get poorer. In his essay, there are four myths about class in America, ten realities of class in America, and three different profiles of people’s lives since birth, all of whom have different social class levels. Social class categorizes people into upper-call, middle-class, and lower-class, and in Mantsios’ essay, he highlights how social class causes division in the United States while he favors the idea of the radical redistribution of wealth. While Manstios claims that the rich exploit the poor, he does not emphasize…

    Eng 309 Class Analysis

Hello Prof. Shaw, I'm afraid that I'm having difficulties with Katherine Conway’s ENG 309 class, and I was hoping you could advise me. First, I received a poor grade on a paper recently that will certainly hurt my grade significantly and I was wondering what grade I needed to get in the class for it to count towards my creative writing and literature major? I'm afraid I may get a C. Second, when I met with Prof. Conway this past Friday to find out exactly why my grade was so low she spoke to me in a loud, harsh, and overbearing tone that, combined with her demeaning and accusatory language, crossed the line into emotional abuse. I was holding back tears minutes into our conversation; before I left she stated that she did not understand why I did not understand the prompt and that she could not give me a better grade until I figured it out. I barely made it out of her office before tears were rolling down my face and by the time I made it back to my room I was sobbing uncontrollably.…

Have you ever felt that you are not good enough? Recent research studies suggest that many freshmen are facing the very real fear of failure. Incoming students wonder if they will fit in and do well enough to stay in a university. In his New York Times article, “Conquering the Freshman Fear of Failure,” David L. Kirp explains that he believes several freshman doubt themselves, their social skills, and their ability to do well in college. In this article, David L. Kirp effectively argues that this cycle of doubt can make students more likely to drop out of school and that universities need to step in and encourage students through his use of ethos, logos, and pathos.…

Please wait for me to catch up to reality. Trust me, I’m trying, but when life moves as fast as it does, it becomes too late and I miss out on yet again another possibility. Please wait for me to think of a half-hearted excuse as to why I can't go out tonight because telling someone that I want to lay in bed and stare at the ceiling isn’t the best excuse. Please bear with me.…

It was quite hard and also very long considering its a short term semester. I had always taken classes in person at IVC, so the first day of this course, I felt like the first day of class for a three-year-old girl, I had no idea what the subject was really about. And reading the class objectives about being able to identify those pictures. I had never been able to do so, only in this one Art 100 course. My favorite so far was Art in Egypt and the Middle East, Classical Art in Antiquity, and Classical Culture, were really beautiful subjects.…

This year I decided to challenge myself academically. I made the decision of taking four AP classes and math analysis so, to say the least it has been a difficult journey. In addition, out of all the classes I took I struggled the most with AP Chemistry. The material is pretty difficult to understand, even after spending a couple hours to review my notes some things would still be a little blurry. I was failing my test.…

Made it through another semester This semester I learned that some of us read and write more then we think we on a daily basis. There are different ways of reading and writing outside of the classroom. After we did the reading and writing journals earlier this semester I noticed that I read more then I write in my free time and for class, like text, social media, ESPN updates, books, and flyers.…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. Despite various minor challenges this semester I believe that I have put in the hard work that it takes and I have achieved the course goals and will complete this class feeling fulfilled and accomplished.…

I hated writing. And believe me, I still do hate writing even right now. Imagine yourself being in college a writing class with a tired body and a tired mind because you had early morning classes already. Even worse, the professor gives you writing assignment that has to be at least three pages long. I can already hear your whining voices and complaints, but once you start writing papers, it would not be difficult to write because it is in your language.…

I already get good grades, but I want my grades to be more than good. I have heard from many people older than me that I need to focus on my grades because that is what really lets you live the life you want to live. In the past year my perspective on school has changed dramatically, and instead of going to college for only two years I want to go for four or more. I really want to be successful because I don’t want to live an average I-just-want-to-get-by type of life. The way I’m going to focus more on school is to block out all the unnecessary distractions.…

Although I hate Chinese class, I am thankful for my parents forcing me to go in the first place because if I didn’t speak a second language, who knows where I would be right now. I used to think that learning another language was a waste of time, like, when would I even need it anyways? But I was proved wrong, when the knowledge of knowing a second language changed my life. I remember in 5th grade, my teacher told my class that the district was administering a Chinese placement test. I first thought that I would never need to use those test scores anywhere…

Don’t talk back to teacher, by Chris McGreal– Short text, article Don’t talk back to teacher, by Chris McGreal, is an article about the controversial subject of the presence of armed police in public schools across the United States of America. The article covers multiple stories about students who have been “unfairly” prosecuted by onsite policemen, which helped me to sympathize with these students, who have potentially had their reputations tarnished for minor offences. The article shows us how legislation in some American schools can stop kids from “just being kids”, while the disciplinary experience is more traumatizing the useful. This article got me thinking about tragic events such as school shootings in America, where an onsite policeman…
