The densities of 3 different solutions, water, saltwater, and an unknown solution, were calculated using a triple beam balance and a graduated cylinder. Density was also used to discover how much zinc and copper are found in a penny. The following results were found: water’s density, 1.02 g mL-1; saltwater’s density, 1.05 g mL-1; and the unknown substance labeled two’s density, 1.04 g mL-1. The percent error was calculated for water’s density as 2%. The composition of a penny was calculated using volume by water displacement and the mass of the pennies.…

A few weeks ago I had a patient that had come in for hyperglycemia, I looked at his chart and noticed he had been in our ER 5 times in the last 5 days. I also noticed that he would complain of head pain, and requested and received narcotics. Upon entering his room and introducing himself, he began stating he had a “headache”. I asked for his hand, he said what for, I then explained that there was a technique that I used on my patients that was as effective as drugs with no side affects. He gave me his hand and said that Dilaudid would be more effective for his pain, I then said can I get you a Tylenol, he followed up with, “I’m allergic!”.…
This is where it went downhill and I seen his condition head on: He couldn’t even walk to his truck completely without having to bend over to breathe for a couple minutes. He looked terrible, but after he caught his breath he smiled and pretended like nothing was wrong, he said something along the lines of, “Well, are you guys going to stand there or get in the truck? haha?” Here, I knew he completely changed his actions and diction, he was ill and in denial, he needed help and he completely denied it so we wouldn’t worry. With a smile across his face, my dad and I also smiled, this smile actually real, because I was young and when someone says they’re okay, they’re okay.…
For my assignment, I shadowed the emergency room on a weekend. I shadowed two nurses whom had different patients. As soon as I got there, patients already began to flood in. There were many errors seen in protecting the patient’s privacy. When the doctor goes to Mildred’s house, the caregiver packs Mildred’s bags for her and goes through her stuff. At the hospital while the nurses were changing Mildred, the doctor walked in with the curtain wide open. The nurse yells out that Mildred wet the bed and she needs help changing the sheets. The ward told Mildred’s daughter that her mother could not talk and when her daughter asked what else was wrong with her he said he could not give out information over the phone.…

This week in clinical, me and another nursing student were assigned to go and visit the PACU. All patients are admitted to the PACU, Post-anesthesia care unit, following surgery. We visited the PACU in the first week of clinical, so I was familiar with the environment. When I first walked into the PACU it was empty, but the nurse told me just give it a few minutes it is going to get busy. I was assigned to be with a nurse for the day and observe how she takes care of patients after surgery is completed.…
