I stood as still and as quiet as I could against the wall. I was anxious and nervous for what was to come. My hands shook so hard from anticipation, I had to tighten the grip I had on the gun currently in my hands. I could feel sweat running down my back as I waited for my next victim to run around the corner. I could hear their voices in the distance. Their hard footsteps against the ground was getting louder and closer with every passing second. I moved away from the wall and held the gun tight against my chest. This was my chance, now or never. I flew out from behind the wall and shot fast and fierce at my enemies. I heard the cries of help leave their mouths, but It was too late. Each and every one of them fell to the ground, …show more content…
I ducked deeper behind the concrete slab and silently prayed to God that I didn't get spotted. I could hear them running away from me, towards the other side of the compound. I let out my breath and slowly looked back around to see them pursuing retreating figures in the distance. “Now or never.” I tuck and rolled behind a stack of tires and army crawled underneath a forgotten vehicle. I crawled out when I knew I was safe and sprinted across the small clearing around the fort when the watchdog was on the other side. I ducked under the beams and Into the structure. It was dark in here with the only light being provided from the square hole in the ceiling above the wooden ladder. I was listening out the best I could see how many people were actually in here. I saw two, but I possibly heard three in the upper level. With a deep breath I slowly climbed the ladder and readied myself for the fight that's about to happen. I pushed through the opening and caught the two defenseless. I took the opportunity to shoot both of them in the chest. I climbed the rest of the way and up to the next level. Without thinking, I turned and sprinted faster than I ever had before, my squad members close behind. Trying to ignore John's screams of anguish, I continued down the path we had originally come down. As we were nearing the exit, I saw the creature pounce on, and proceed to tear one of my colleagues to pieces before my eyes. This can't be real, I told myself as I burst into the frigid night through the door we had originally come through.…

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is a dystopian novel that takes the reader on a journey through a future world where books are illegal. The novel outlines the fact that books are important to civilization in many ways, whether it be content, characters, themes, or any important historical foundation that books contain. At the end of the book, the main character, Guy Montag, grabs a few books to save from the firemen, and finds himself amongst a group of homeless book lovers who each have books, or portions of books, memorized where they are safe from the hands of firemen and the government. With the idea of being in Montag’s place and having a choice of which books I would save, I would have chosen The Color Purple, The Wind in the Willows, and The Life of Pi, each for their own unique qualities that would be valuable for future civilizations for historical reference. Rich with gender and racial history, The Color Purple by Alice Walker exemplifies what life was like in the early 1900s for southern African American women.…

Although many underlying messages are prominent throughout this novel the main overlying theme is that blind acceptance of societal norms is a catalyst for the loss of oneself .This is expressed continuously by the action taken by characters throughout the novel. At the start of Fahrenheit 451 Montag seems perfectly happy accepting his occupation of destroying literature as a fireman. This false sense of happiness begins to come unraveled as Montag meets Clarisse. Clarisse helps to establish the theme because she represents such a vast contrast.…
