Prologue

She felt the subtle breeze against her fingertips as she drew the string of her bow toward her porcelain cheek. She waited for her green eyes to spot the target, then with steady hands she let the serrated arrow fly. THWACK, the ruthless thief fell, motionless on the cold ground. As if on cue the knights of the realm pierced through the tree line and disbanded the thief's quarters. She moved her chocolate brown hair to the side and secured the weapon to her torso before she began her journey back to the kingdom.

Chapter One:

Coming Home

Taking gentle steps, I entered the castle’s walls searching for Prince Damien. I quietly went to my quarters to change into a more proper outfit for this gaudy occasion. Returning

Sometime during the Ball the Prince went off like always to dance with some lucky maids, while I stood on the sidelines and took watch. I was very tired that night, being that I had just returned from a battle. At the end of the night we left together, like always, through the back door and out the abandoned alley. Something was different than usual, our other guards weren’t there. It was too late when I found their unconscious bodies heaped around the corner. Like a flash the seven of them were on top of us, I couldn't get to him in time to stop or even fight them! I ran for close to an hour before something strange happened… I found Damien.

Just sitting there in the middle of the forest looking at the flowers. I became flustered, he looked so gorgeous in the afternoon light with his auburn hair and sparkling blue eyes. I walked closer to him and said “Are you ready to go yet?” He simply smiled at me and all I could do was walk closer.

“NOOOOO!!!” It was Freya, she had followed me here. What was she doing? Why did she have to ruin this moment? I looked back and saw that it wasn’t Damien standing there, but a vile creature that I had never encountered before. “Strike it in the stomach!” It was Freya again and without hesitation I drew my sword and did as she said.
