Fahrenheit 451 Clarisse Characterization

Imagine a world where books are forbidden, everything is fast paced and firemen don’t put out fires they make them. In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury published in October of 1953, there is a main character named Montag. The book is about how Montag learns to like books. The characters in the book try to either teach Montag to like books or steer him away from books. One of the characters, Clarisse teaches Montag that not everything has to be fast paced or you don’t have to follow society. Ray Bradbury’s writing techniques reveal that Clarisse is playful,different,and curious. One characteristic that demonstrates who Clarisse is playful. A demonstration that shows that she is playful is when she and Montag are walking home together …show more content…
An example that shows that Clarisse is different is when Clarisse is telling Montag what her psychiatrist wants to know. On the end of page 20 Clarisse’s psychiatrist questions “why I go out and hike around the forests and watch the birds and collect butterflies.” In conclusion Clarisse’s psychiatrist wants to know why she goes against society because she hikes in the woods, watches birds and collects butterflies. In that section of the book Clarisse is telling Montag what her psychiatrist wants to know. When the author uses sensory details to say “hike around the forests and watch the birds and collect butterflies ”. It means that Clarisse is showing Montag that she goes against society and gets questioned why. In addition the author clarifies that Clarisse is different when she first meets Montag she talks about what she likes to do at night. At the beginning of page 5 she says, “I like to smell things and look at things, and sometimes stay up all night, walking, and watch the sun rise.” Ultimately Clarisse is describing what she likes to do at night showing that she’s different. In that section of the book Clarisse is telling Montag what she likes to do at night. When the author uses connotation to say “I like to smell thing and look at things”, it means that stopping to smell or look at something isn’t bad and not everything has to be fast
