In the book Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury the absence of scrutinization from citizens allow the government to fully control the cities and causes society to spiral out of control . Ray Bradbury uses the minor character Clarisse to develop the image of a corrupt city for the readers. This sparks constant questioning of society (the antagonist) from Montag the main character. The setting of the book is in future city, perhaps late 23rd century, which illustrates an accurate model of how society has changed into strict rules and no liberal thinking. In this city the cars move faster, rules get stricter, and work becomes more time consuming. The overall theme for Fahrenheit 451 is to never exchange your religion, freedom, and knowledge for temporary goods because they are more useful than happiness is.
