Medifast is an extremely popular diet because of the fast results most people see while following this diet. It was developed by physicians and has been recommended by more than 20,000 doctors since 1980.
Medifast claims to be a low calorie, low fat diet that many people have joined. The plan is based around high protein shakes, bars and soups. The most popular choice is the 5 and 1, which consists of 5 Medifast meals and 1 “lean and green” meal. Medifast is also extremely expensive. The base cost for the variety package is $299.50 for a four week supply of food. This includes 49 shakes, 42 bars, 14 oatmeals, 7 scrambled eggs, 14 soups, 7 chocolate puddings, 7 cappucinos and 3 bonus meals. However, there are many supplements suggested for purchase, including snacks, flavor infusers, digestive health and heart health supplements. Other things available for purchase include special blenders, shaker jars, blender bottles, recipe books, testimonial books and a daily intake journal. The cost of these additional products added to the first month of food would total $486.09, plus shipping and tax.
While there are no celebrities endorsing the Medifast diet plan, there are promises of loosing 2-5 pounds per week following the diet. There are testimonials from clients that boast of drastic weight loss in significantly short periods of time when the amount of weight lost is considered.
