His advising method was applicable. He was listening to the problems of the students and advising them accordingly. He offered one of the students to guide her with the homework solution for the final exam; she has three exams in the same day. He suggested her to discuses this problem with the instructor from the middle slot exam for the make up exam if doesn’t get any response then he will talk to the faculty member by himself. It was really nice the way he felt the problem of an undergrad student and showed willingness to solve it. He even offered to help one of his students who has anxiety problem with the exam in the separate room. He told me that most of the students at EKU are first generation and they advise them keeping this thing in mind. I think, this is good thing, I observed at EKU that students are sharing their problems with the faculty members and he was guiding them with the possible solutions. His door was open and students were just knocking and were welcomed into the office. One more thing I observed that he knew the name of most of his students, which shows how well he know the …show more content…
Chemistry department has very good courses to offers to the students who want to be a schoolteacher. They train them to be a schoolteacher, it is just like graduate level faculty preparing courses at UK, where they prepare faculty for universities/colleges.
Summary,
The faculty shadowing assignment was really helpful for understanding the academic culture in US. As I am from Pakistan and I have teaching experience at home from a small engineering school, it is totally different from US academic culture. I can compare both of them. EKU is a small teaching oriented university. I got an opportunity to examine the teaching environment at a different school. I discovered the differences and similarities between UK an EKU. I would highly recommend the shadowing program for the graduate students to understand the academic culture.
Finally, I want to thank Dr.Martin Brock for his time and useful guidance for this

One would think two land grant universities, both located in the central to western part of the United States would be similar. Surprisingly, that is not the case as Kansas State University and the University of Wyoming have few similarities. While K-State and UW are both exceptional colleges, with advantages and disadvantages for each school, UW outranks K-State based on the criteria of cost, academics and location. One of the most important factors analyzed in a college making decision is cost and the University of Wyoming is much more reasonably priced than Kansas State.…

I was also surprised when he talked about how Indian students were not expected to succeed. Contrary to popular believe, writing does not come easy to anyone. In order to successfully produce professional writing, it is important that one plan, draft, revise, and edit his or her work.…
