Faculty Coordinating Committee: A Case Study

Part I: What is the FCC (Faculty Coordinating Committee)? Many times, there is a differing opinion between the teachers at a given school and their administrators on how things should be done. This can create conflict and tension between the two groups, and less cohesion between them can hurt the students’ educations. This issue has come up numerous times during my three-year tenure at Archbishop John Carroll High School in Radnor, PA. Whether the issue be student and faculty safety, student behavior, or other issues around the school, the administration and faculty at my school could not seem to get along. Last year, my school developed the behavior committee to combat one of the main issues that continuously came up at faculty meetings: declining student behavior. Last year was only my second year at the school, so while I noticed a difference between the way I acted in high school and the way students act at Carroll, I could not fully participate in this conversation. The teachers at my school feared that if we did not deal with the issues right away, they would continue to deteriorate. The solution: create a committee that would come up with potential solutions to the behavior problems …show more content…
This committee worked really hard and presented their solutions, but nothing happened from it. These were presented at the end of last year in the hopes that the beginning of the 2016 school year would have better administrative support for teachers. I went to one of these meetings; however, I was disappointed when I found it was mostly teachers complaining about students versus trying to come up with constructive responses to the issues.
