“The first inhabitants of Paraguay were the Indian speaking Guarani (Infoplease). This is the most well- known language of Paraguay other than Spanish. In 1811, Paraguay revolted against Spanish rule and then became a nominal republic under two consuls. The country had three different dictators during their first sixty years as an independent country. Francisco Lopez started war between Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina within the years of 1865 through 1870. Not until the year 1912 did the country start to have a more stable environment (infoplease). Paraguay used to go by the name of parrot. Paraguay has plains and low wooded hills. The main river of the country is Rio Paraguay. The temperature of Paraguay is hot and the climate is said to be subtropical to temperate, but it depends on where you are located in the country (Essential Geography Facts About Paraguay). In Paraguay there are two hundred and seventy- five little waterfalls that are between the Igacu Falls. These falls are massive. The president is Horacio Cartes and is helped by Vice President Juan Afars Maciel. They have both been president and vice president since August 15, 2013. The flag has three horizontal bands (The World Fact Book: Paraguay). The colors are red, white, and blue with an emblem. The emblem is a yellow star in the center of a wreath. The words Republica Del Paraguay are circled around it. On the other side of the flag there is a lion holding a staff. Paraguay is the only country that has a flag with two different meanings. The colors for the flag were chosen because the soldiers of Paraguay carried red, white, and blue flags when they went to war in 1806. The symbols on the flag were put on in 1842 but in 2013 they changed it some but wanted to still keep the same characteristics of the flag of 1842. The national symbol for Paraguay is a lion. The lion represent protection for the people of Paraguay from peace and justice (Paraguay). Paraguay has the largest navy to be a country surrounded by land (‘Ten Facts About Paraguay’
