Facts About My Mexican Culture

Decent Essays
Have you ever came home to country music and 80’s music blasting at the same time? My culture is really different because my mom is totally 80’s and this generation and my dad is a total redneck. My mom hates everything country but still ended up having a child with a cowboy (me). My culture is mixed up with a lot of different cultures like; a lot of English, Irish, Scotish, Welsh, Cherokee, and a good amount of Mexican.

In this paragraph, I will be talking about my Mexican culture, because it’s my favorite inheritance. On my dad’s side, a lot of family members are Mexican, so that’s where that comes from. I love all of the recipes that my grandma makes because they go way back and it has never changed; that’s what makes it special.

This week’s readings discusses different aspects of the Mexican war. In “Mexican Views of the Mexican-American War discusses the origin of the war between Mexico and the United States, it states “To explain then in a few words the true origin of the war, it is to say that the insatiable ambition of the United States, favored by our weakness, caused it”, the weakness that it’s referring to is the Mexican government. Like we discussed on Thursday, Mexico has always had a chaotic government that contributed the loss of Mexican land. It can be lead to think that if Mexico had a secure government, the loss of the land wouldn’t have happened. Mariano Otero’s “Considerations Relating to the Political and Social Situation of the Mexican Republic in the Year 1847” relates to the previous reading because he explains the Mexican government and weak army contributed to the loss of…

Let me start off with some background information for those of you who do not know what a “Zoot Suiter” is and how they came about. “Zoot Suiters” were often belonging to Mexican American Culture and often times were young in age, most under 25 years of age. These individuals were famously known for wearing a unique style of clothing, hence the name Zoot suit, and were usually found in groups. This movement in style and culture originated in East L.A. and rapidly spread into Hollywood and onto the various beaches in the area, according to Don McFadden from our reading Terkel, The Good War. These groups quickly gained a bad reputation and because of this many were quick to attack these “Zoot Suiters”.…

I identify myself with Latino/Hispanic cultural group. The most important characteristics of my culture are: the language, the festivities, food, the relationship with our elders, the way we spend time at work, and the public transportation among others. For example, I speak Spanish as my primary language, but I learned English since I live in this city. We, celebrate many festivities, Carnival, is a festivity in which we thank the earth for all resources it gives us, and we like to decorate the houses with balloons, flowers, paper decorations, and also we throw alcohol to the corners to stop the bad luck. In my culture we don’t eat tortillas, but we cook the most delicious “humintas,” a kind of “tamal” made of fresh ground corn, mixed with…

Families exist in a larger complex made up of a community of kinship network and friends that make up their beliefs and values practices that are defined within the family (lynch 43). These beliefs and values are based on culture, which is comprised of the different languages spoken, as behaviors that influence each individual’s way of thinking, feeling, and interacting (28). The two cultures I decided to observe was that of the Hispanic/Latino and African American, each culture offers many differences in terms of values, communication, and religious beliefs. I’m Mexican, I was born in Mexico but then brought over here to the US when I was around 3 years old. My whole family was born in Mexico and I’m the youngest child which means that all of my brothers and sister grew up for most of their childhood in Mexico and my oldest sister even got married over there. We eventually all moved over here and that resulted in our family being very culturally connected with Mexico’s culture. My mother is a strong believer in continuing cultural traditions even if we are in a different place. So she made sure we always knew a lot about where we came from or special traditions that were done in Mexico.…
