Facts About Distracted Driving

After researching information from the textbook and websites provided, I learned very many important facts. One fact that really left an impression on me was from cdc.gov and it states, “In 2013, 424,000 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving a distracted driver…” To me this is such a horribly large number. Even worse it says that 3,154 people were killed. Since 2011 the number has increased by 10%. If this pattern continues then the number will only get larger. These facts makes me extremely upset. These crashes could have been easily prevented if people decided to more responsible and considerate. Driving is an amazing privilege we can gain but many take it for granted and become numb to the seriousness and dangers of driving a car. From the same website it states, “Drivers under the age of 20 have the highest proportion of distraction-related fatal crashes.” Young drivers can less mature as they have less experience. Drivers from the ages
16-19 are three times more likely to be apart of a fatal crash due to distracted driving. Seeing the seriousness of distracted driving I understand the maturity I need to continue to expand on to be a safe driver. Since I am in the age group most likely to become distracted, I need to be extra cautious to avoid falling into this habit that many people my age get caught in.
While immaturity is common in teenagers, it is absolutely not excusable during driving situations while your actions affect others. All should understand the significant effect it can leave on all around. One is not just putting their own life in danger when they drive
