It has become an enormous part of communication throughout the world since its development. It’s a way for people to share what they’re doing and their experiences throughout. Social media has had a very positive impact on law enforcement. It has, and will continue to prove a useful tool for gathering intelligence. The advancement in technology will only further progress the ability and use of social media to continue to gather and produce the intelligence for community-based and national security. Another use for social media would be to gather evidence as a use for defense and prosecution staff who use feeds from Twitter and Facebook, or uploaded videos from YouTube in an effort to bring a scandalous image upon witnesses, create a preconception for law enforcement, track down other evidence, or discover links between guilty parties. More often than not, those who have committed certain crimes will advertise the crime they have committed or plan to commit which will allow law enforcement to either apprehend the individuals before the activity occurs or will be able to use the “advertisement” as a form of a confession. Examples of such include sexual predators who can, usually are, and will continue to be tracked based on their online activities. The effect political values have had on the criminal justice system as a whole have not always been positive but if changes are made, it could end up being for the better. Historically, even up to today, the spoil system has had a large hand in the criminal justice system, especially in American policing. The spoil system is the theory and act of politicians rewarding their friend of favorites with higher positions. The overall affect almost gave such politicians a pass to do almost whatever they very well pleased with little to no consequences due to their connections within the law enforcement system, or even the criminal justice system as a whole. The future must bring changes if we want to further help develop law enforcement. Rather than putting the time effort and money to trying to give higher jobs to their friends or favorites, it would be more beneficial to choose those individuals who would actually do their job and do it correctly and with dignity. There have already been too many incidences with many of the law enforcement officers set to protect their communities, but instead end up killing innocent African Americans. In order to stop this elected political leaders have to take initiative and realize and see what’s going on for what it really is and look to make changes based on what’s in the best interest of the people as opposed to what’s
