Workforce Motivation

The main objective of an organization is to maximize profit, and this success is highly dependent on the performance of employees. Most of us do not realise how important employees are to an organization and just see them as an input in the process of providing goods and services. But employees are valuable assets to the business that need to be motivated to benefit the company.

Motivation is described as a reason or reasons for acting or behaving in a particular way. It describes the level of desire an employee has to perform a task in the business. Motivation is not necessarily the same as the level of happiness of an employee. It is caused by internal and external factors. Internal factors of motivation refers to

Reduced Employee Turnover – Motivated employees have a great sense of attachment and loyalty. They are very happy with their working environment and keep aiming for a better performance. As they are happy with their work people do not tend to quit the job in the company. This leads to a great stability in the workforce and is also good for the reputation of a company as a lot of companies are judged on their rate of employee turnover.

3. Creates Positive Environment – Even though there is a difference between happy employees and motivated employees, it is okay to say that most motivated employees are happy. This creates a very lively and positive environment in the company. In this kind of environment employees get motivated from each other and raise their bars so they can try and achieve more. Failure to not achieve this task does not usually result demotivation but leads to inspiration and helps employees learn from their mistakes.

4. Reduces Absenteeism – A lot of organizations struggle with the problem of absenteeism where their employees constantly keep taking leaves from work. This causes the business activities to slow down. In the case of a motivated workforce this is not usually a problem as employees enjoy going to their workplace.
