INTRODUCTION
Volunteer Tourism or voluntourism can define as a form of tourism where the tourists volunteer in local communities as part of their travel (Sin 2009). Also, Brown (2005) remarks the term of voluntourism as the type of tourism experience where a tour operator offers travellers an opportunity to participate in an expedition that has a volunteer components, as well as immerse oneself in the local culture and community and engage in conservation projects and explore career opportunities that may aid for future employment. In discussing of voluntourist’s motivation, Brown and Lehto (2005) explains that motivations of volunteer tourism include altruism, travel and adventure, personal growth, cultural exchange and learning, professional development, organization goal and right time or place. Motivation can be seen as one of the contextualizing elements of the tourism experience. Ryan (2002) views that the motivation to travel as an escape from the workday world, whilst MacCannell (1973) and Urry (1990) claims that motivation as a desire to go sightseeing or gaze at objects either authentic or unauthentic. Motivations also associated with volunteering services, such as altruism and doing something meaningful, along with those associated with recreational travellers, such as look for excitement, adventure and meeting new peoples. The opportunity for volunteers to participate in the local activities and interact with the community may occur the positive personal development, that of a greater awareness of self. The students had named their group, “Help Perhentian”. A typical PCCP consists of activities such as school clubs, awareness booth, community projects, scuba diving course, island cultural immersion and island village living which the participants can learn how local people eat, cook, play traditional games, wear traditional clothes and so forth. The participants will stay together with a host family during the 30 days of expedition, offering even deeper cultural interaction and experience local routine
