I believe that prospective gun buyers should be thoroughly vetted and tested. People may not enjoy the process, but if they have nothing to hide, it shouldn’t matter. The tests should analyze the mental wellbeing and competency of buyers. The only way for buyers who are deemed mentally ill to be denied gun ownership is if they have been voluntarily committed to a mental institution. This makes it difficult for individuals who are undiagnosed to be vetted. Also the amount of people voluntarily considered mentally ill account for a small percentage of gun buyers (Davidson). One of the largest critiques towards gun control deals with the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment was established during a radically different time than today. Gun control advocates argue that we no longer have the need for a well-regulated and armed militia. We have already established many branches of armed forces. There is essentially no need for citizens to be armed besides for recreational purposes. Firearms have drastically changed over the last two hundred years. Muzzle loaders weren’t as big of a threat towards society as an AK-47 with a two hundred round drum magazine
