Radish seed with longer hours of treatment in water germinate more
Introduction:
The objective for this experimentation was to determine the effect that water had on radish seed germination in different hours of being exposed in water. Seed germination is an important aspect of life because by those seeds that germinate become fruits and vegetables to consume. Therefore, it is necessary to know the appropriate environmental conditions that a seed needs to germinate. Different types of seeds have their own requirements of water concentration in order to germinate. Although water is necessary for germination of seeds, too much water or too little water can cause the seed not germinate. In the study, A model effects of water stress

In another study, Effect of water potential on seed germination, Steve Oberbauer and Philip C. Miller conducted an experiment to see the germination response of selected species to different soil water potentials (Oberbauer and Miller). In the experiment they had 25 seeds of each different species for their study. The seeds were in a container with water and kept at a constant temperature (Oberbauer and Miller). For this particular experiment germination for the seeds was described by having the first appearance of green tissue (Oberbauer and Miller). The overall results for the experiment concluded germination was delayed in those species with low water potentials (Oberbauer and Miller). Consequently,in our experiment we are looking if the amount of time the seeds spends in water tend to affect the germination process. Our definition of germination for the purpose of the experiment is when the seed coat starts to crack open. As a group we hypothesize that, seeds that spend the most hours in water are going to germinate more compared to those that spend the least amount in water. If the radish seed …show more content…
Each treatment had a total of 19 radish seeds and each was placed in their own salsa cup. The first treatment the radishes had no water. The second treatment the radishes were placed in water for 6 hours. The third treatment the radishes were places for 12 hours. The fourth treatment the radishes were placed for 24 hours. The fifth treatment were placed for 36 hours. The sixth treatment were placed for 48 hours. The seventh treatment were placed for 60 hours. The last treatment was completely submerged. All of the salsa cups were marked with their corresponding treatment. Once all the radishes were placed in their corresponding salsa cups water was added. The water for the treatments came from tap water from our lab room. Once all the salsa cups were properly prepared with the radish seed they were placed in the incubator to maintain a constant temperature. The experiment was conducted for a week where we looked at the different hour treatments to see if the seed radishes germinated. For each treatment there were 2 to 3 students who volunteer their time to check the rate of germination. At the end of the experiment we calculated the total number of the seeds that germinated for each particular treatment. Furthermore, after obtaining our result we use the chi square for the statistical analyses. With the chi square we can obtain a confidence values and use the degree of freedom to analyzed our result. With the chi square we are

The carrying capacity of Wisconsin Fast Plants (Brassica Rapa) in a 2-liter bottle growing environment Introduction In this lab we conducted an experiment in which we created a habitat in which plants grown; We will determine if the plants will grow successfully in this habitat. We will plant “Wisconsin Fast Plant”seeds, also known as (Brassica Rapa). The Wisconsin Fast Plants are a small, fragile sized plant that has a short growing period and produces seeds at a high density. We will observe them as frequently as possible and record the heights each day we make observations.…

Pinto beans or in other words common beans are the most abundant beans in both Americans, making it major source of daily nutrients for large number of civilians. This experiment was done to examine if the number of seeds used in a specific area would affect the growth process using two pots (Control, Experiment). Control pot had two Pinto beans, while the Experiment pot had four seeds. Both pots were placed in the same room with same amount of water supply and light.…

Note that the four hormones have different concentrations. In order for this experiment to be valid, the amount of hormone exposed to each corn seed must be equivalent. It was decided that each hormone treatment would include a hormone paired with 6 mL of water. The control would be treated with 6 mL of water alone. For starters, it is important to convert the concentration of ABA into g/L.…

My hypothesis that the germinated peas would consume more oxygen than the non-germinating peas was accepted. Looking at the results the germinated pea results of how much oxygen was consumed was much higher than the ungerminated peas. The hypothesis that the P. savitum would rise in oxygen consumptions as its temperature rose was accepted as well. Looking at the data and the line graph, it is clear that as each temperature got higher the amount of oxygen consumed went up as well. Most enzyme activity after 45ºC generally become denatured and can’t function properly.…

In four ziplock bags ten seeds of barely, with a papaertowel under each one, will be covered in diluted 2ml of laundry detergent. The concentration are 4%,1%,0.125%, and 0.25%. In this experiment, replicates and a control will be included. Since detergents are filled with toxins and harmful chemicals, it is hypothesized that seeds covered in high concentartions of laudry detergent will germinate slower than seeds covered in lower concentrations of detergent or in water.…

The basic set-up for this experimental design would consist of eight plates, each with a single female beetle and eight beans. The two independent variables would be whether the female of South Indian descent or Burkina Faso descent (SI or BF) and what fraction of the seeds would be of the preferred seed type (100%, 75%, 50%, or 25%). This produced the eight different conditions studied in this experiment, and the dependent variable would be the average measure of the number eggs per a bean (not considering those that have no eggs) and of each bean type. These measurements would be recorded within an hour of preparing the plates as well as twenty-four hours later. With the measure of the average number of eggs per a bean, we learn more about the oviposition behavior of whether the conditions promote one egg to one bean or multiple eggs to one bean.…

The Wisconsin Fast Plants seeds, which naturally do not grow in high sodium chloride concentrations, did not grow well in the pods with a higher concentration. The overall germination percentage for the plants planted in three highest sodium chloride concentrations, one and half, three, and six percent soil concentrations was zero percent. Due to the 12 plants in the highest concentrations not germinating there were no measurements for any of the recorded categories other than germination percentage. In remaining sodium chloride concentrations, plants could still germinate. Unlike what was suspected, the plants grown in the lowest or no sodium chloride concentration did not have the greatest percent of germinated seeds.…

The first experiment on the effects of acid rain germination of radish seeds, materials used were twenty radish seeds, , acid rain solution, pH strips, paper towels, two petri dishes, and tap water. The second experiment on testing the effects acid rain had on radish plant growth, the materials used were twelve radish seeds, six plastic cups, potting soil, two acid rain solutions (one with a pH of 3and one with a pH of five), tap water, UV lights, and six plastic bags. These were all materials used throughout the course of the lab. The method used for testing the effects of acid rain on radish seed germination is rather simple.…

Once the seed germinates and the plant has begun to sprout, move the seeds to four separate pots, and add soil. Once the plants have begun to sprout take the measurement of each plant and record your data for day zero. Next, take three glass containers of greatly varying volumes (41,4185cm3, 2,250cm3, and 602cm3 were used). Before the plants are placed underneath these containers, give 15ml of water to each plant.…

Kyle Standage 6th period Mrs. Abdelhaq 2 October 2017 Background Research Does the weight of a seed affect how fast a plant grows? A seed is “the fertilized, matured ovule of a flowering plant, containing an embryo or rudimentary plant.” (Dictionary.com) Seeds go through a process, called germination, to grow. The seed first has its roots break out and grab hold of the soil. After the roots have a hold of the soil a small plant will sprout from the ground.…

According to the Demonstrative Report, 2008, corn that was planted 2-3 inches below the surface had the best results and seeds just ½ inch below had the worst. This is a little different from the experiment being tested today. The experiment being tested is when you plant Alaskan Pea seeds deeper will they grow the same height just as much as the seeds just below the surface of the soil.…
