Senior citizens are the ones who are affected the most. Since the retirement age is increasing and lifespan longevity is increasing, people are living longer, which require more medical needs to stay healthy. However, there are some people who are reaching or past retirement age who does not have or save enough money to afford health insurance and healthcare cost. Therefore, the poverty rate for senior citizens has been increasing from 10 to 14 percent.
According to the data, it shows that overall poverty rate has a trend of decreasing from early 2000. however, the graph reveals a peak spike around 2010 and then continue to increase again after a couple of years.
