Faciliational Psych Reflective Report

This term I took Facilitation Skills and Counseling Techniques and Vocational Psych and Career Development online. This is my third term in grad school and so far I like it. It is challenging and slightly different from undergrad, but that was expected. In this essay I’m going to reflect on my experience in my Facilitation Skills and Counseling Techniques class.
I was excited about taking this class because it has the word “skills” in the title, which I was interested in learning about and also the class was taught by my favorite professor. This means that going into the class, I had an optimistic outlook. I knew it was going to be a challenging class, but that didn’t deteriorate my excitement and desire to learn. I was fortunate enough to have an amazing and organized partner. We both were extremely nervous during our first recording. It didn’t help that I had previously been ill and had no idea what I was supposed to do or what to expect. My partner was patient with me and helped me to feel comfortable. We both redid our videos a couple of times because our nerves made us second guess ourselves. By the time we had to do our third recording, we wanted to get it over with so we didn’t even bother trying to start over. With the second taping we had to also do a transcript. I knew that it was going to be a long process, but I didn’t realize how tedious it would be until I had to rewind the first 30 seconds a few times so that I could write word for word what was being said. I wanted to scream and pull my hair out when I made it to five minutes in. When it was over, I was able to appreciate the process. I was then able to realize why we were assigned the assignment and grateful for it. Going back and watching the session and writing and transcript gives a new insight. I was able to see and notice things that I may not have noticed

One of our biggest challenges was the sound. Matthew and Lauren were constantly talking over each other’s lines, so it was really difficult to cut without compromising the sound. At this point, the take with slower pace became really helpful. Leatrice was able to cut around the footage to make it sound ok, and Robbie mentioned that if we have recorded sound separately, we can just overlap the soundtrack and blend them in with fade in.…

I tried my hardest to keep my topics in order based on the script I had made previous, but I realized it was lot harder than I thought. I feel this was an issue because I had a guest in my podcast and it was hard to judge how long we would discuss each topic. But thankfully I had a wonderful guest who was able to open up and give great feedback to the questions I asked him regarding my topic. I was really happy with the way my podcast turned out and I wouldn’t be opposed to doing another one in the future. The only thing I did find difficult was finding an audience.…
