A major downfall to Facebook is that your followers can be either your biggest fan or your worst enemy. In other words, users are free to post their reviews and/or feelings whether they are positive or negative. This by itself may not always be the worst thing as long as those posts are going to benefit you. However, if there are some negative reviews and you are not checking things on a consistent basis, you have left yourself open to viewers making an instant judgement based upon this negative feedback and your lack of “clean up”. I would say that you have a better chance of keeping your customers when you address a situation immediately, whether it is a negative situation or a positive situation. It shows that you are paying attention and you care about your customers and the products or services that you have to offer. In today’s society consumers want convenience but they have not forgotten that their needs matter and do not feel they should sacrifice it for the convenience. Although social media is a huge part of staying in touch with your current customers and reaching potential customers, I think there is still a need for personal interaction. Consumers want to feel important and to receive the attention they feel is necessary if they are going to use your product or services. Therefore, having someone to handle your public relations would be very beneficial to your business by taking over the time needed to review any compliments or complaints and bring them to your attention. In addition, hiring someone to assist in sharing any positive news worthy information about your company on social media such as your company supporting a charity or organization, hosting an event or preparing a monthly e-newsletter would be beneficial to a company as it would be getting information out there and while allowing the owner to focus on its customers. Either way, the more people you have assisting you in getting your business out there on any social media site, the more chances you will have to be seen and engage potential customers.
