Instant messaging; status liking, commenting, and sharing; public and private groups all allow us to stay up-to-date with family and friends on a worldwide basis. Many people can say they’ve found themselves snooping through someone else’s profile for various reasons. Drama is often sparked up on social media sites, predominantly Facebook. Having a larger amount of friends allows users to view more of these types of posts, which can be entertaining to watch for some people. With drama-like situations, there are the individuals who tend to be involved with the heated disputes. Often times, these disputes end relationships and friendships. Some Facebook users have a bad habit of updating Facebook with, what seems like, every aspect of their lives. This can essentially become a serious issue for some people. Numerous people, particularly common among teenagers, feel the need to constantly update their social media accounts (Marche, Stephen). This can lead to, what is now stated by the Diagnostic and Statistical manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), Internet addiction (Keller, Maura). It is becoming more common for people to spend excessive time with technology, more so than with people face-to-face. What does this mean for the future? Facebook is always going to be evolving, growing larger every day with new features. Along with evolving technology will be humans following every step of the way. The site has drastically changed the social experience in just over 10 years. How remarkable is this? It is hard to imagine how different the site will be in just another 10 years. No matter how dramatic future changes are, I think people within society will always be prepared to familiarize themselves with new modifications. I do believe that technology is being grasped by more young children than ever before. Children are beginning to incorporate communicating through technology, at younger ages I might add, more than ever into their lives.
