My current social media presence consists of LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. Overall, I do not have an active presence on Twitter and Facebook. My primary focus, for about the last year, has been enhancing my LinkedIn profile. This decision is heavily motivated by the approach of my graduation and current job searching.
How are you using them?
In regard to my activity on Facebook, I do not create original (statues updates) often. This form of posting has usually been saved for major life events or thoughts I am seeking some kind of response or guided resolution via other people’s perspectives. The further I moved along in my college career and the more I interview with potential employers, the more painfully aware I become to the fact that I do not have many hobbies outside of school. It has happened on occasion in internship interviews or in casual conversations with internship supervisors that the question of what things interest me outside of school and work. I have always successfully mustered together the typical answers of reading a good book, spending time with family and friends and other typical answer. Some deep self-reflection in the past couple of months as shown that I really don’t have any hobbies or interests outside of school. It is the primary reason for my general obsession of everything has a place and everything is in its place. I have been known to create lists with several headings and subheadings. In a professional setting this can be a selling point because once something is on my ‘to do list’ it will be done. An employer can also be reassured it will be completed to the best of my ability.
