Facebook is one of social networking sites (SNSs) and enables their users to create a public profile as well as to build relationships with other people or peer groups. Facebook was founded in 2004, primarily as a communication tool for students on Harvard’s campus, and since 2006, when it was opened to the general public, it has become the leading and most popular social network around the world. In recent years, the number of its users has increased twofold (Błachnio, Przepiórka & Rudnicka, 2013). However, the recent statistic presents the number of daily active Facebook users as of the third quarter of 2016. During this period of time, it was found that 1.18 billion active users visited the social network on a daily basis. Overall, daily …show more content…
However, the Facebook intensity was first used to study intensity of college student by Ellison, Steinfield and Lampe (2007), to examining the benefit of the college student to use Facebook. The study found that student uses Facebook to communicate with their friends and classmate online and offline by left offline message to their friend when they are not online. The results reveal that Facebook intensity has a positive influence on the college …show more content…
The result shows that the Facebook intensity has engaged the students to frequently to participate on Facebook, which students perceive negative effect on academic performance. Another study was examined the impact of the Facebook intensity on the academic performance of the students. However, the result from their study was found that Facebook intensity has a positive relationship with the academic performance of the student, that is the high student use Facebook, the more it will affect the student in their study (Ainin, Naqshbandi, Moghavvemi & Jaafar
