People spend too much time on social networking websites that they inadvertently neglect their romantic partner which may result in relationship unhappiness.
As such, this literature review will focus on the adverse impacts created by social media between loved ones and how actions such as lack of caring gestures, insecurities, monitoring partners’ activities and jealously affects their relationship.

Firstly, there were more female respondents than male respondents. Secondly, there were no Asian respondents. Lastly, non-Facebook responses were not considered and were ruled out hence there was no data to compare the Facebook and non-Facebook users.
Conclusion
To conclude, the study revealed that there was an increased chance of jealousy in a relationship, when Facebook usage increased. However, the chances of ending ones relationship is lower depending which stage the couples are in their relationship. Results demonstrated that Increased levels of jealousy within a relationship may hinder the progression of the relationship through social penetration theory (Altman, Taylor; 1793).

Among all social networks, Facebook is most commonly used to keep in touch with people. (Joinson ,2008) Facebook can also be used to monitor what people are up to and social surveillance (Steinfield, Ellison, & Lampe, 2008). The covert use of technology to observe other people’s activities is termed as Facebook surveillance Muise, Christofides, and Desmarais (2009) found that the amount of time that romantically-involved people spent on Facebook was positively associated with Facebook jealousy. Individuals who has low self-esteem and has negative views on themselves naturally tend to have suspicion on their partners and will be insecure and that they will leave them for someone else. (Guerrero, 1998) Hence they will monitor their partner’s behaviour. People who monitors on their partners are less satisfied in their relationships (Goodboy, Myers, & Members of Investigating Communication, 2010). The Methodology used for the research was online survey and the sample size was
