“Bing, bing, bing”, the quite familiar sound goes off once again from a cellular device. The sound was that of a notification from Facebook; one of the most successful social media sites to this day. This profound internet source has consumed the average person’s daily life. Although it is quite commonly used in today’s society; it has sparked an interesting controversy on whether or not Facebook is having a positive or negative impact. For example, many supporters believe that Facebook has a positive effect on society because of the networking it provides to the entire world. Not only does it connect the world, but supporters strongly suggest that Facebook provides a surplus of information. However from the observations of several life situations; it has been proven that the increase of Facebook in the 21st century has created a negative impact on society as a whole.
In many cases the excessive use of social media can result in people developing extreme anxiety and personality disorders which can only be cured by medication. Anyone can easily access information about someone with the click of a button. This can lead to the dishonorable act of hacking—when one takes total control of an account which does not belong to him or her. Additionally, the person that hacks this innocent person’s account remains unknown and mysterious. This is daunting because it gives any person the ability to abuse someone and not have to face any consequences. A society without any form of punishment is simply unjust.
