I lost my balance and fell into the waves. My heart throbbed at the back of my throat, and my arms and legs lost all sensation. I lay that way for a long time, face in water, unable to stand. War is sometimes the main reason for people skedaddling their homes. Before war or other catastrophe, refugees had good lives, they had everything that they needed, good clothes, houses, food, and financial progress, but after war their lives got twisted ‘inside out’, they had to skedaddle their homes. In Inside Out And Back Again page 1 stanza 2, it says, “Every Tet we eat sugary lotus seeds and glutinous rice cakes. We wear all new clothes even underneath”. In ‘Children of War’ by Arthur Brice, real refugee kids talk about their experience, “After the war started, you could not even go out of your house.…

For my Tuesdays with Morrie project, I made waves of the ocean crashing into the shore with poster board and a lot of construction paper. Boarded by construction paper, I have ten aphorisms. The idea for my project was about the time that Morrie compared himself to a small wave seeing the waves ahead of him crash along the shore, and the wave knows his time will come to crash on the shore as well. Morrie compares him to the wave realizing that his death is coming upon Morrie just like the wave will crash into shore.…

Walking along the shore of a sandy beach, whether feet be bare or booted, each step will leave an imprint within the sand. Varying from deep to shallow from indistinct to detailed, each step will change the sand no matter the foot. But as the waves should have it, each footprint will be washed away and erased, leaving the beach still a beach but the grains of sand sorted new. Author, Laura Hillenbrand, wrote the novel, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, to establish that should one choose to look with sanguinity any situation is not impossible to overcome, even if one is changed in the end.…

July-Day 18 I can barely pull myself out of bed today, it's cold outside the blankets that have kept me safe since my descent to dreamland where I have been since 6:30 PM. I dreamt of lighthouses and the light it casts out over the clear blue gulf sending a signal of safety to those passing by. I wonder about all the things that are like lighthouses to me.…

Disbelieve and fear shook my mind as I lie on my back, sitting on top of concrete sandwiched in between the hot metal hood of a car, as the weight pressed down against me it didn’t hurt, my body was too numb to feel anything. All I could feel was a car pushing me further into the ground pushing my lungs down and shutting air out of it. It felt too surreal I kept blinking as if I thought I’d wake up from this mess. I could see sirens and people gathering around me watching in disbelieve, I kept fading in and out of conscience I felt like I was close to death.…

During April of 2015, I stepped out of the car and onto the beach for the first time in Destin, Florida; the salty sea stung my nose as I breathed in a refreshing breath of briny air. The first step onto the sand was like a bed of blankets; soft and comfortable. The way the white sand glided onto my feet and squished between my toes felt like heaven. The waves were singing a delicate lullaby, pulling me closer to them. As I walk towards the ocean with the warm sand beneath my feet, the cold waves lap at my ankles, as if they want to take me away.…
