Fabien Baron was born in 1959, in Antony, France. He is now known as one the most influential fashion art directors. He studied at Ecole des Arts Appliqués in Paris, after that he went to work with his father, who was also an art director for French newspapers. With his dad, Baron was able to learn a very structured approach of organization in editorial design. At the age of 20 years old he travelled to New York, where he was able to get a job at GQ, under the supervision of Mary Shanahan. After GQ, he got the position of Art Director at the magazine New York Woman, this position got him more advertising jobs, until he landed the job of Creative Director for Barneys department store.
