FIFA is in charge of regulating and organizing international events like the World Cup and the Women’s World Cup. FIFA is also responsible for selecting which country hosts the World Cup, but most importantly FIFA is responsible for upholding the integrity of the sport. During his time as FIFA’s president, Blatter created a culture that encouraged corruption and unethical behavior, which also contributed to the downfall of the organization. During his first run for the president of FIFA in 1998, “In his book how they stole the game, David Yallop writes that cash bundles of $50,000 were handed out to African delegates in Paris before voting” Panja et al., 2015), Since his first election till now, Sepp Blatter has essentially always bought his votes via bribery, he showers FIFA’s delegates and local officials with standard grants and bonuses. Right before his election in 2002, lawyer Michael ZenRuffinen, compiled a report alleging abuse of power and mismanagement that was signed by 11 executive committee officers. In June, a couple days after his reelection into his fifth term, Blatter announced his resignation, due to him facing potential charges from the FBI and Swizz officials. The future of FIFA is virtually in its members and official’s hands. They have to elect a leader that will make sure everyone in the organization is following the rules and procedures of FIFA, the new leader also has to lead the fight against corruption. The next FIFA president can lead the fight against corruption by being transparent with FIFA’s financial records, and by creating a safe culture that encourages honesty and whistle-blowing. The next FIFA president can also make sure members of FIFA are following the organization’s rules and procedures by making sure members are aware of the rules and procedures, and that they fully understand why it’s important that FIFA members follow these rules and that officials involved in the ethics committee follow proper procedure when investigating or disciplining an official caught in
