FFA Reflection

My first State FFA Convention was the 90th Annual one, complete with lazer shows, a random limo, and getting to eat in Bricktown. And while I had a lot of fun, the biggest thing for me, \was that I really got to learn what the FFA was really about. On top of that, I learned about a few careers, and got to listen to some amazing speakers. All of the speakers had great messages. The first one about living in the moment, the last about tomatos, and how to live a better life. I haven't seen many speakers before, so it was fun to see these ones. They were hilarious, and had a great message. Seeing the State Officers speak was nice as well, as they were really great on stage despite their age. The Career Show that was held didn't hold too many

The overall rhetorical situation discussed in the special event "Question Bridge: Black Males" was the problems associated in the young black male communities and how certain scenarios are not that different, racial wise. This does sound broad, but it does fit the topic appropriately since the volunteers associated with the documentary touched on a lot of topics pertaining to young black male communities like finding that special someone, discussing how drugs and smoking is viewed as, generations begin to differ in appeals, etc. One of the questions brought up in the documentary was "In this era, in this society, do you consider yourself to be free as a human being?" A very interesting question since there will be many appeals towards it;…

This is a very interesting topic for me and a very personal one as well. It hits home for those that are dear to me that there are so many challenges that we have to face on a daily basis regarding the issue of what is legal, moral, and thereof. I think that throughout the United States and across the country that there are many government officials and administration that are faced with the decisions of having to change many rules, policies, and regulation to accommodate the new law that grant same sex individuals and couples the same equal rights and protection to be in a union or marriage like that of the traditional marriage of that of a man and woman. There has been many challenges from many interest groups that was either against or for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).…

With this concert, I was not too sure what expect seeing a vocalist, piano player and a clarinetist, but this has turned out to be my favorite concert thus far. I enjoyed how different it was from the other concerts with the music they played was more enjoyable, modern and upbeat. A positive aspect I took from this performance, was inviting and friendly the performers were. It is not everyday where they invite you to sit on stage while they do their performance because they want you to feel like you are a part of it. I really did find much negativity to this performance, besides the fact it was most sung in a different language and hard to follow, but helped me learn more of different types of music.…

I am so thankful to hear those guest speakers talk about their life stories, the struggles they went through to get to the place they are today, and the beautiful souls each speaker has. Every single guest speaker was delightful, but if I had to choose my favorite it would be Bambi Shen. Maybe it was the fact that she went into depth with her life story because she had more time to do so, but it was a very inspiring story and I am glad I had the chance to hear it. She made me open my eyes to never judge someone by their appearance. She even said a couple of times that although she may look Asian she is French on the inside.…

Through my involvement at the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic and at FSA Community Program I learned to work in a team and to always share the same goal as my teammates. This common goal is to give the best and most accurate service to the patient at the clinic, the same goal was shared during my time at FSA. These teamwork experiences have also taught me to provide, accept and use feedback from the members of my group, and to always adapt, improve and develop new skills. Through these three activities, I was able to reinforce my reliability and resilience. By volunteering at a hospital and clinic, I was able to meet different types of patients with very different backgrounds and cultures, which allowed me to reinforce my cultural competence,…

I was surprised and overwhelmed because I knew nothing about it. I now have learned more in the last few months than I did in three years of vocational agriculture classes. I have been able to use the skills I gained in FFA to fulfill my ambassador volunteer duties. The ambassadorship has humbled me in such a way that I have more friends at school. Although this may seem strange, but through this program I realized that I had neglected my friendships at school for the past two years.…

Very recently, another GSA leader and close friend, Jewell, came to me with some troubling news. A picture circulating Twitter within our school's community had shown up on her dashboard, one that was very frustrating and upsetting. It depicted a student making rude gestures in front a display case decorated with symbols of LGBT+ appreciation and "Safe Space" posters. This was project our Gender Sexuality Alliance had worked very hard on to foster a more accepting environment within our high school. Upon showing me this insensitive picture, both Jewell and I were angry at the ignorance of the students who participated or encouraged this behavior.…

People often confuse students with disabilities as being lazy or slow. Some teachers do not even bother to make accommodations or modifications for the sake of the student’s success. The Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA) is a team making a difference for students with learning disabilities; in addition, it is creating opportunities for success for all individuals affected by learning disabilities and reducing the numbers of learning disabilities in future generations. To be part of LDA 2016 in Orlando was a lifetime opportunity that I can never forget. I have to say that my attendance to the LDA conference was a life changing experience.…

The concepts delivered throughout the management problem-solving course have provided me with valuable simulated real-life experiences which can be applied in my everyday work life as a HR Administrator with aspirations of progressing my career. The course delivery was such that as a student, I was able to use my existing knowledge and skills, in addition to that of my peers, to analyse and explore complex organisational problems. This course has challenged the way I think and deepened my understanding of the problem-solving process, which has enabled me to perceive issues from new perspectives, I once would not have considered. Additionally, it has also allowed me to make explicit and authentic connections between the course content and my…
