The FDA has jurisdiction over all the food under the FDCA (Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act) which is a set of laws that was passed by Congress in 1938 giving authority to the FDA to oversee the safety of food, drugs, and cosmetics. In California, the food and drug branch (FDB) serves to protect and improve the health of the people by verifying that foods, drugs, and other consumable products are safe and not falsely advertised. The FDB is responsible for regulating, processing, and distributions of food products in California. Businesses in California must obtain a FBD license by law if they are if they are processing and distributing food products.
