1. Introduction Throughout this semester, I have explored many different career options in the FCHD field. However, as I have taken classes in and out of FCHD, I have realized that I don’t want to get a degree in FCHD. Instead, I have learned that the career I truly want to pursue is teaching choir and French in high school. This paper will focus on the career details, my journey to proficiency, and my career plan.
2. Career Details
The education needed for high school teachers is a bachelor’s degree in a certain area, such as math or french, as well as an education component (Get Educated). Licensing Requirements to become high school teachers are the Praxis Exams I and II (Get Your Teaching Credential), Student teaching under the direction of a licensed teacher, as well as a National Evaluation Series (NES) (Teacher Certification Tests).
In Utah, the career outlook for a high school teacher is 4.8% (Utah Occupational Report). The Bureau of Labor Statistics stated that in 2012 the occupational outlook for high school teachers in the United States was 6%, which was lower than average (Occupational Outlook).

I will do a French Study Abroad during the Summer semester at Utah State to get myself back into “school mode”, after which I will continue into the Fall semester, following my Vocal Performance/French degree plan my counselor sets up for me. I will join the Association of American Educators (AAE) to keep up with what’s going on in the teaching world, and I’ll reach out to my former high school teachers in order to keep my contact list strong. I will seek volunteer positions in high schools, or look for jobs as an aid in a high school to increase my experience and bulk up my resume, all while attending school. My current work does not relate to my future career, so I will have to change that when I return
