FBLA Leadership Role

What role do you typically play in (*a) group?
When I am in a group setting, without a doubt I take on a mediator and leadership role. For example, when I mentored and tutored 5th graders, I had to not only be the authority figure, but I was responsible for listening to their problems and concerns and providing them with the best resolution. Being a mediator allows me to be a silent leader for the reason that I can lead people while they feel like they are a leader as well. Since, I have trained experience in being a mediator, I can help students and my fellow RA’s to communicate effectively and come together as a unit and not as people who are obligated to live together.

At the time I was the head officers and was in charge of overseeing the treasurer and three other FBLA members that were responsible for raising money. One day the vice president and I were discussing what fundraiser we were going to do, when we were going to do it and how much money we wanted to raise. However, the vice president I could not come up with a consensus on what to do because our ideas clashed. To solve our conflicting ideas, I first used my written and oral and communication skills to generate a list of our ideas. Then I reasoned with my fellow chapter member to eliminate her ideas that may have seemed unrealistic and would not possibly work in the time frame we had, and I did the same. Due to the process that I used to solve the conflict, the vice president and I agreed on how to raise money for the March of Dime. As a result, we raised over five hundred dollars to be donated.

To me to intervene in practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities means social workers know about evidence-based interventions to help achieve the goals of individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities they work with. Social workers understand the theories from all course work and critically evaluate and apply what we know to successfully help clients meet their goals. We realize that inter-professional and interdisciplinary collaboration is important to helping clients. We use what we understand about human behavior, person-in-environment and theoretical framework with our clients. We advocate and mediate with and for clients to ensure goals are met.…

In order to raise money for prom this year, I accompanied the class of 2019, for 5.5 hours, to a west point game and worked in concessions. I had a great experience working with my peers to achieve a goal that would benefit the senior class. Recently I have engaged in service with my church, for 4 hours, helping to move furniture while they were switching locations. From this experience I learned that sacrificing my time for a communal effort may seem minuscule, but ultimately helps increase efficiency. Also I volunteered at the annual Easter egg hunt at memorial park last weekend for 3.5 hours.…

My intention for participating in this faculty led trip is to first experience and explore a new culture and second to learn more about something I have always enjoyed; marine life. I have always loved traveling and exploring, especially when it has a positive impact on other people or, in this case, an ecosystem filled with life. As a member of the QU Women's Soccer Team and an Athletic Training/Physical Therapy student, my academic and athletic schedule makes it very difficult to do any study abroad or service trips during the school year. When I saw this opportunity, I thought this trip would be a great way for me to be able to pursue my love of travel and making a differences without interfering with my busy schedule during the year and…

While working in groups, we will experience changes in group dynamics and processes.…
