FBISD Leadership Reflection

Decent Essays
One opportunity in my life that I am grateful for is the chance to participate in the FBISD Leadership 101 and 102 programs. Not only was it eye opening to see leadership across different career fields and connect with fellow young leaders, I learned about the true basis of leadership. Leadership is based on selfless volunteerism. No matter what field they work in, leaders are those who go above and beyond the call of duty to improve the community, often with little appreciation or compensation. For example, business and selfless volunteerism don’t usually go hand in hand. However, during our business session, I was able to see how business and community activism work together. During this session, we had a chance to meet with the managers

As revealed in my resume, I am a proud member of Plymouth High School Dance Marathon, an organization that fundraises money for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana. For the past three years, I have had the privilege of partaking in the raising of funds for this exceptional Children Miracle Network hospital. In the past three years of my involvement, I have played a distinct role in our collective donation of $85,000. However, this large sum of money did not come easy, and allowed me to employ the use of my leadership skills. When we were only a month away from last year’s Plymouth High School Dance Marathon, we were a whooping $20,000 off of our goal.…

Having had a very basic knowledge of what leadership entailed before becoming an Organizational Leadership major, this major has not only helped me reflect on my own understanding, but grow in it as well. Through taking leadership courses and learning from great leader’s writings, the knowledge I have gained is unmeasurable, and will aid in developing my professional career moving forward. After taking Kouzes and Posner’s Student Leadership Practices Inventory, I have become even more aware of what my abilities as a leader are and what areas I need to improve in. In this paper I will be reflecting on my given results in the areas of modeling the way, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. To conclude, I will highlight personal strategies…

    * I wrote this essay on the topic of leadership because this is one area I am focused on in my personal and professional growth. Management duties are changing as I move forward in my career, and leadership skills will be an integral part of my development. I also thought this was a fun topic, one I have thought about a lot in the past but never necessarily communicated and I am happy to turn my scattered thoughts over the years into a somewhat composed opinion on the wisdom of one of my fictional mentors. It seems every day I get an email at work or see an ad on the internet on how to be an effective leader. I’m sure all these websites and programs have great advice but for me what seems to be most effective for me is watching…

During my time at the DU, I have held many leadership positions in on-campus organizations. My most current and challenging leadership role has been as Vice President of Programming for my sorority. The hardest part of my role is holding my members and myself accountable for their actions. Upon initiation, every member makes a promise to herself and the sorority to hold herself to the highest standards of character, as her actions no longer reflect just on herself, but on each and every member of our organization as well. As an elected leader of the organization, I have promised to do the same, and I am also responsible to help hold all members accountable for their actions when they are not in line with character expectations, whether it…

Sheryl Sandberg revolutionized the word when she defined leadership as: “making others better as result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.” Many factors and elements have shaped my personal growth, including church, family, and school, but what all of those elements have in common is that they exhibited one of the pillars that I should strive to model: Leadership, Character, Service, and Scholarship. All of these pillars were demonstrated by priceless role models in my life; without them I would not be the person I am today. I intend to demonstrate the pillars that my role models demonstrated me in college and in adult life.…

Discuss your interest in the EdD program and how you believe it will help you to reach your short- and long-term professional goals. Following the completion of my Master’s in Organizational Leadership, and through my experiential learning, and leadership training, I came to realize the value leadership plays in our everyday life; in school, as a parent, as managers of people. Leadership done right can guide all of us to improve our situation or a condition by employing leadership concepts. As a result, I have short-, mid-, and long-term goals. My short-term goal is to begin teaching at the undergraduate level.…

Leadership is a passion of mine, as reflected by my involvement in SkillsUSA, and I strive to be a leader in everything I do: from working fervently and assisting others in classes to volunteering and leading club meetings. My priority in college is to earn a degree in chemical engineering, but I will always make time to lead and volunteer. I intend to join the Society of Women Engineers while in college. This club interests me the most because I know how arduous it can be to be a female in the engineering community. At my school, I have always been one of the few females in the drafting and technical drafting courses.…

These past two weeks of class have been filled with numerous insights on leadership that I have helped me become a better leader. Understanding that great leaders are more than just someone who leads is extremely important. The main three topics that touched me were the list of things that a great leader is and does, John Maxwell’s five levels of leadership, and Jack Welsh’s 20-70-10 method of running a company. All three of these concepts on leadership are helping me recognize what my own leadership philosophy. “Great leaders add value to someone’s life everyday”.…

Life often presents many opportunities for leadership to arise, and indeed leadership is a trait I believe to be inherent in every person. These opportunities can present themselves in a variety of ways, and while leadership conjures up a positive image, motivations and goals might not necessarily be good-natured. Leadership is not something I aspired for, but rather something developed over time ads these opportunities continually appeared. Often times, it was the people I was around that pushed me into such positions as they repeatedly looked to me for leadership, and also because I knew how to work with conflicting personalities in order to accomplish a goal. By valuing the teams I worked in the sense of Transformational leadership, I unknowingly…

Leadership Skills and Implementations The idea of leadership¬—and plugging myself into the equation—has always been a precarious matter. I have experienced vast work situations and I have also been in positions of authority, yet, I have never felt like a leader. Before starting this course I believed that to be a leader is one who enjoys and thrives on office politics; I thoroughly lack this “quality.” To me, leadership sounded like an adjective for one who manipulates others to either do jobs that they did not want to do or at least in ways that that they did not want to do it.…

The term started out with me displaying emotions of excitement and anxiety. Florida South Western to me was much more than college, it was a new world filled with new people and opportunity. Opening up to students and other members of Florida South Western was my greatest issue since I am naturally an introvert, but I knew I would eventually perceiver and learn how to interact with others. This semester at Florida South Western has influenced my life in many ways. The most influential things I found at Florida South Western were the school events, the clubs I have participated in, and the experience of taking college classes.…

Introduction As I reflect on this course and the results of the Questionnaires, Reflection, and Action Worksheets I have learned many aspects of leadership. I have analyzed the definition of leadership and now have a clearer understanding of it. According to, Introduction to Leadership; concepts and practice, by Peter Northouse (2015), leadership can be composed of many variables such as relationship, trait, ability, skill, behavior, and influence process. He also elaborates on how the “leadership of an individual can be used to influence a group to accomplish a common goal”. In addition, he discusses how leadership is not the same as management (Northouse, 2015, pp. 3-7).…
