The movie set in Detroit. The main characters are two men: Ezekiel Whitmore (Spoon),
Stretch. They are drugs addicts. They formed a band which is called Eight Mile Road with Spoon’s girlfriend - Cookie. The band is majoring in the spoken word genre. In the band, Cookie is the main vocal, Spoon is responsible for bass and secondary vocal, and Stretch is responsible for piano.
The movie starts at the scene which Spoon’s girlfriend - Cookie goes into a coma from a drug overdose. After a performance, an admirer gives Cookie some heroin and she tries it (first time).
It causes her to overdose and pass out after a drug party with Spoon and Stretch at New Year Eve because she lacks experience to use hard drugs like her friends. Spoon …show more content…
He describes the feelings are so good. Back to now, we can see Spoon is still using drugs. He takes a long time keep using drugs. In the conversation with Stretch, we can know always run out of money for buying drugs. He doesn’t have a lot of activities except for band activity. In the movies, we can find Spoon spends most of his time making money for drugs and using it.
Secondly, Spoon has social or interpersonal problems. At one scene, his girlfriend – Cookie kisses his best friend – Stretch in front of him. According to “What Drugs Do to Your Body”, it claims “Most people who do drugs for a while develop what is called a “tolerance” to the drug. This means that their body gets used to it.
Although some people who do drugs think that this means that their body is “accepting” the drug, it actually means that the person is killing the parts of their body that used to try to resist the drugs. When this happens, the person doing drugs will need to do more and more of the drug to get the same feeling.”
Cocaine quickly invade the dopamine-carrying cells when enters the body. Because of the ability to bind cocaine molecules with these nerve entrapment cells is very strong, it can easily occupy the original dopamine position. when the dopamine position is full of cocaine filled, it cannot find the storage location. So, it can only be forced combined with its receptor to activate the body's excitement.
