There has been a debate whether it is more accurate to identify suspect through photograph or in person. A study by Megreya and Burton examined the effect of method used in identification process (2008).
The study consists of two experiments; experiment 1 assessed how accurate people can remember unfamiliar face immediately after the presence. The study involved 92 participants of a University in Egypt, split into four group; two groups received live stimulus and the other groups received static stimulus. In live target group they used a person to stand for the duration, while for static target they use video of still face. They were shown the stimulus for about 30 seconds then followed with blank screen before the screen presented ten faces. All the faces that they used in the study are Egyptian

So, in this experiment instead of presenting the target face and the options separately, they were presented simultaneously where the target face on top and the options were in the bottom. The study involved 100 students from the same university located in Egypt, divided into 4 groups, 25 each; two groups received live targets and two other groups received static target. Result shown that the accuracy for overall performance was around 65-70%, not significantly differed from experiment 1. Also, there were no significant difference between static and live group.
From experiment 1 and 2, we can conclude that there is no significant difference between using live target or static target in the identification process. Further, the rate of accuracy on both methods were concerning, since there is 1 out of 4 chance that the identification process is invalid which in this particular context may cause someone to receive undeserved and unnecessary

There has been no truer statement, a person’s recognition of visual perception can be altered by the smallest of stimuli.
