Extraversion vs. Technology Usage
Technology has become a fundamental part of our society, it is impossible to ignore its impact on media, politics, and other aspects of our culture. A society without computers, tablets, laptops, etc. is completely foreign to most teenagers and young adults. Most people born after 1990 grew up in an era where the World Wide Web was in practical use. We are surrounded by technology on the daily basis, so it is only right to examine technology impact on extraversion. Technology has to have some type of impact on our personality because it is everywhere we turn. There has to be some correlation between technology usage and extraversion. It seems nearly impossible for something so fundamental to our society not

Simply stated, levels of technology usage should depend on an individual’s level of extraversion. There is not a lot of research regarding technology usage and extraversion, simply due to the fact that the technology boom is relatively too new to make any major implications. Research regarding technology’s effect on society seems to be rising and there are a few studies that examine extraversion and technology usage. A study executed by Lemmings found that “Internet addicted versus nonaddicted groups” were vastly different in “level and type of psychopathology” (Essig, 2012). Lemming results didn’t necessarily show differences in extraversion due to technology, his results simply indicate that there were major differences in mental disorders due to technology. Based on preliminary research and technology’s dominance in our society, individuals low in extraversion will …show more content…
The higher someone is in extraversion the lower the tendency toward technology. The results indicate that young adults use technology to avoid social interaction, in essence, our study found that introverted people use technology as a crutch. This “crutch” is used in everyday life by numerous people, young and old, it is simply too easy to look at a phone, tablet, or computer screen rather than confront an awkward situation. This “crutch” is now an obstacle, it is being used at family dinner tables, restaurants, and numerous other places. The results fundamentally implicate a major hole in society caused by technology. I have made a strong inference about our society based on the results, but there were two flaws in our study. The hypothesis was definitely supported by our data and I am fairly confident in the results. Although I am fairly confident in our results, there are two sources of error that limits the accuracy of the hypothesis. The two major sources of error in our study were the sample and the fact that all the answers were yes/no. The sample was all college students from the same college which obviously do not accurately display society as and whole. Furthermore, the questions could have been answered better with a scale; a scale would have been a better way to score the questions and it would have been a better indicator of one’s

The use of technology causes us to meet face-to-face with much less frequency, resulting in a lack of much needed social skills. We lose the ability to hold conversations and end up getting distracted by our phones. In the article, "Social Media as Community", Keith Hampton argues, "However, this has not slowed arguments that social media is increasingly a part of these prosperous societies and that this new tool is responsible for a growing trend of social isolation and loss of intimacy." This means that social media sometimes prevents us to socialize in real life. More teenagers seem to choose to use their technology rather than socializing in real life.…

Numerous people spend an astounding amount of more than seventy hours a week on the internet or their phone (Dunn 80). That is an average of ten hours a day, which is more than most people sleep. Men use technology for two main reasons: to find information and for entertainment, while women, on the other hand, primarily use technology to take care of their social relationships (Kowalski). People often want to be seen as who they want to be, rather than who they really are, so they use social media to change and improve who they are. This can eventually cause people to try to alter themselves into the person they virtually created.…

Some people may say that children become more lonely as they spend more time alone with their phone, but they don’t realize that having alone time isn’t so bad. However, “The biggest problem is the amount of time kids are spending alone with their devices”(18 Tarshis). Still, nobody said that having alone time is bad, after all everyone needs time to themselves. Clearly, the claim that technology kills our friendships isn’t backed up with as much evidence than my viewpoint, which is it expands the horizons of…

Technology is an amazing thing. People are able to check email, video chat, broadcast live video, or order a pizza all from the their phone. The ability to make a phone call from a smartwatch was only something James Bond was able to do, but now anyone can purchase a smartwatch and be just like James Bond. The ability to ask for directions, a phone number, or even the weather forecast, is just the press of a button away. With the amount of tasks that be performed right from a person’s mobile phone, people are more connected today than ever before.…

Technology: to be or not to be. If you look back to the early 2000’s, you could see life not consumed by technology. Unlike living in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, or 90’s, progressive technology existed in the 2000’s. Today, people spend excessive time on their phones and many cannot conduct a human conversation. Not to mention, there are smart phones, tablets, and many other devices.…

Most people at my school have their own or at least one computer or device they use in school and at home. Technology has taken over in many ways and used for a variety of things, but it has also dulled social senses, decreased contact with community and, at times, can make interaction with others feel unusual and awkward. We now live in a place where its weird to show up at someones door without calling or texting first because thats the new normal. Many jobs are done over the internet and made much easier, but the more we sit on the computer the more we are wasting our lives not being active and social with others face to face. While access to tremendous amount of information has increased the validity of that information needs to be questioned because of the amount of incorrect…

Right this second, billions of people are on their phones, scrolling through their Twitter timeline, their Facebook newsfeed, posting pictures on Instagram and on their snapchat stories, and possibly even texting their loved ones good morning. Over the years, the world population has increased; our communities became bigger, but our social circles became smaller. This is mostly due to the atrocious outbreak of smartphones. In Weaver’s words, “‘The more closely people are crowded together... the less they know one another’”…

Technology today is making the world a much smaller place, social media in particular can connect you with people all around the world never having visited that country, or maybe even that continent before. This, of course, from an obvious perspective can have very positive outcomes. The ability to socialize with various cultures would only further educate people particularly youth. However, I had to wonder, is there any adverse effects to being able to communicate on such a wide basis; is it addictive? How much, if any, does it affect lives outside the programs?…
