What does person think when they imagine the future? Some people thought of science fiction movie, while others thought of Ray Bradbury. The author of my IGS book, the testing, imagined a unique dystopian future. Like all futuristic science fiction, Joelle Charbonneau used extrapolation to describe and characterize the future in The Testing. Extrapolation is the act of inventing unknown conflict, challenges, and animal.
The first example of extrapolation is War of Nation. In the book, a whole new system of government, agricultural and way of life is created after a massive nuclear war broke out. According to the answer given by the main protagonist on her history exam, Cia, “The first Stage of War of the nation started with the assassination of prime minister chae, which fractured the Asian Alliance, Sparked a power struggle among the other nation and a civil war. During the civil war, bombs were dropped on the Korean states, destroying most of the population and causing a meltdown of two nuclear reactors.”(81/338) She later went on to write the first two US cities destroyed by the Mideastern coalition was Washington, D.C., and Boston. And the first group to declare war on North America Coalition is the South America Coalition. Also in the 5th stage, California was broken off when an earthquake caused by the bombing triggered the fault line. And later on, the coastal state were all destroyed by floods. The whole book was set in a dystopian future. I do not believe these extrapolations were created by the author as they are pretty common among fiction books and movies. I find extrapolation makes science fiction more interesting and different from completely fiction and nonfiction. I enjoyed The Testing and I am looking forward to reading the books in the
