As a team captain of my high school’s cross country and track teams, I make an extra effort to reach out to my underclassmen to make them feel welcome and supported. I know in my first year of running in high school, it was hard to feel welcome in a sport when everyone was literally running away from you. Luckily, I grew faster and made many amazing friends, but I believe everyone should be included in the team dynamic, even if they are not a top runner or an extrovert. New people on their first day are usually timid and wide-eyed. I have found that it only takes asking their name and saying something somewhat funny for people to loosen up.…

If school is all year round there will be drastic changes in the american lifestyle. For example school being all year round would be a problem for children because year round school will not give students enough family time. This is the case because sometimes parents like to take a vacation, or a break once in awhile. Therefore the government should let schools have a break during the school year so that children can have time to spend with family and friends. There are many more problems such as parents would have to make scheduling adjustments, and year round school won’t give students enough time to spend with family and friends, and year round school would cost more money.…

The list could go on and on about what is wrong with high school sports in this generation. It starts when they’re young, parent coaches who only qualify because they played the specific sport when they were younger. That is brought into high school, with their child playing the same sport they “coach”, not getting to experience anything other than what their parent’s knowledge and what they could tell them. I’m not saying all high school athletes who are coached by their parents aren’t going to get any better, but I am saying that if you are going to hire a coach for a program, make sure they are more qualified than just being a parent in the district or having a little playing experience. High school is the preparation stage for college, both academically and athletically.…

Did you know that football is the #1 high school sport in the United States? Maybe not for long though. Many people around the United States believe that high schools sports are a much needed activity for kids. On the other hand, some people argue that sports in America have too many conflicts with a kids life. In October 2013’s Atlantic cover article, “The Case Against High School Sports,” Amanda Ripley argues that American student-athletes became less educated while playing a certain sport. Low test scores and sports have no correlation to each other; American student-athletes gain many benefits from playing sports after school including increased test scores and lower dropout rates, decrease in risky behavior, and having a competitive attitude in everything they do. Amanda Ripley writes that many countries outperform the United States on international…
