Over time, sensors will also enable greater degrees of vehicle automation, which the industry will benefit from” (Hiligsmann). To attain the data that is needed, cars will need a wide variety of parametric data, such as speed, current pressure, temperature, positioning, proximity detection, gesture recognition, and much more (Hiligsmann).Sensors, such as ultrasonic sensors, are normally mounted in bumpers of cars for assisted parking systems. The only downside is that such sensors are only able to function at speeds of about 6 miles an hour, give or take a few, and cannot measure small distances with 100% accuracy (Hiligsmann). These sensors could be used in combination with radar, cameras, and other sensory technologies to provide an autonomous car with distance measuring functionality (Hiligsmann). Cameras can monitor the driver’s body position, whether they are looking at the road and if they have a hand on the steering wheel. Another example can be shown in Tesla’s self driving cars where if you do not put your hands on the steering wheel after a certain amount of time, the car stops because it is unsure of the driver’s status, …show more content…
Take the 3D printed mask, named the Eidos Project. The whole purpose to the mask is improve the wearer’s sight and hearing abilities (Engineer). From Royal College of Arts in London by a small team of students, both masks are prototypes. The first encloses the ears, mouth, and nose. It uses a directional microphone which allows the wearer to isolate a sound in a noisy environment. The said purpose to this is so the wearer can target a person in a crowd and listen to them without the surrounding noises/interruptions. The second prototype is for the eyes, which captures video, sends it to a computer which adds effects to it, and re-sends the video to the wearer, done in real time, which the effects are similar to long exposure (Engineer). “We are used to controlling the world around us to find the settings that suit us best. But while technology advances to aid this, our physical bodies remain the same. What if we had the same control over our senses? If we could adjust them in real time, what experiences would this make possible,” exclaimed the Project Eidos team (Engineer). Imagine being able to concentrate your senses and have to ability to be better than you ever have been in the
