External Conflict In Ponyboy's Cigars

An external conflict is when there is a church fire caused by POnyboy’s and Johnny’s cigars. As Pony and Johnny were eating and talking with Dally, some kids had gotten into the church and were stuck in there as the cigars triggered the fire to start. POnyboy and JOhnny came to go see the church and saw the screaming kids inside the church with the fire. The clueless, little kids were left in there, screaming helplessly. As a result, Johnny and POnyboy decided to go into the church and save them, which then caused themselves to be severely injured. They had made a brave decision, but Johnny’s life was sacrificed in the process. Johnny’s death led to Dally letting himself be killed by the police, since he saw no point in living if Johnny was gone; Dally treated Johnny like a little brother and cared about him a lot. …show more content…
Right after Johnny took his last breath, Dally pounded angrily at the wall screaming, “Don’t die JOhnny, please don’t die,” and ran out like a devil was chasing after him. He was so mad and upset that Johnny had died, so he led the police into shooting him by robbing a grocery store and raising an unloaded gun, which made the police forced to shoot him, since they had no idea that the gun wasn’t loaded. However, Dally had wanted this to happen, since he lost a really close friend. Therefore, because of the church fire, two close friends had passed away, leaving sad, disappointed, close friends behind, which changed Ponyboy’s actions and decisions. He started becoming more clumsy and lousy about his schoolwork. When Ponyboy’s english teacher told him that he was failing the class, this shows how JOhnny and Dally’s death had affected him even with his schoolwork. Also, Pony stopped eating; everything he ate tasted like baloney to him. As you can see, the death of Pony’s friends impacted his life decisions and
