“The Pedestrian” is a dystopian story with a very unexpected plot twist, but it was hard for us to believe that technology could destroy society, just like how it was revealed in the story. We believe that this was not the indented reaction Bradbury had hoped for because, the story still leaves us with suspicion that technology can harm our society. As life goes on, society gets even more involved with social media. The reason for this is because they think it’s different when someone says, they went for a run yesterday, instead of being on a computer or any device. Everyone is impersonating each other, when there is no time to be anyone else, hence why go for a run when you can relax and watch shows all night. Therefore, Leonard Mead breaks this stereotype by being himself and doing what he loves, which is walking during the night. Bradbury reveals this action by stating “what a rare incredible thing in a city of 3 million there was only one police car” (Bradbury 1). Bradbury states the difference between the size of the population and police force, showing that crime is almost non-existent, but at the expense of the individual’s freedom. As the country needs only one police car to enforce the law, the lone police car becomes symbolic of the state’s power and the population’s willingness to obey that power, skillfully enhancing the dystopian setting Bradbury had
