Of Mice and Men Expository Essay
A human. man or woman, lest they lose hope or sanity, will clamor to any lengths to improve their position in life,, they will struggle to find peace of mind, prosperity, and happiness. In the dramatic novel, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, the struggles of mankind to fulfill personal hopes and dreams is brought under the spotlight and exemplified for the reader. Curley’s Wife, a temptress by trade, is doing what she can to achieve peace of mind and happiness, like anyone would, and therefore should not be judged negatively by her peers.

Curley’s Wife has a life devoid of real companionship because of her relationship with her husband, “Well I ain’t told this to nobody before. Maybe I ought’n to. I don’ like Curley. He ain’t a nice fella.” ”(Steinbeck 89). Curley’s Wife had big hopes and dreams, which ended in heartbreaking failure that resulted in her rushed marriage to Curley. Her life spiraled down from hopeful opportunities too marrying a man that oppresses her. She feels that she has reached a dead end, and is searching for a companion confide in, because she doesn't feel she can open up too her husband. Companionship is something that humans need, and an unloving, controlling husband does not fit the bill. He cannot provide her happiness or peace of mind, so she is searching for someone who can. The criticism she receives from her peers regarding e her pursuit of happiness is unjust, and undeserved.
Curley’s Wife is not malicious in her intentions when tempting people, therefore should not be scrutinized for it. Curley’s Wife only displays desire for information and companionship in her attempts to tempt the men of the farm, “Say—what happened to Curley’s han’?”(Steinbeck 78) . She is simply looking for information, which in this case is not a crime and has no victims. Something as simple as a request for information should never be met with such a guarded, or closed minded approach. She does not deserve to be alienated or avoided for a asking for a
